Space Invaders review (A2600)Reviewed on July 09, 2007Most whom stumble upon this review probably don't even know what an arcade is. No no, not those gambling stations full of slot machines, the ones that quickly went out of style in the 80's or early 90's that were chock full of fun video game cabinets. One way the Atari 2600 made a lasting name for itself was by porting many of the best arcade classics to the homes of millions. Hey, maybe that's why arcades began dying off around that time? Just a few of these gems that were made into great home ... |

Sonic the Hedgehog review (GEN)Reviewed on March 16, 2005We all know the history of Sega vs. Nintendo. Nintendo probably had at least an 80% share of the market, and it was hard to imagine a company doing better than becoming Pepsi to Nintendo’s Coca-Cola. So here comes Sega with its version of a mascot that could presumably outrun the fastest cheetah, Speedy Gonzales, and of course, Mario. |

Kirby's Adventure review (NES)Reviewed on July 21, 20041993. Two years after Super Mario World was released and the SNES was strongly showing off its 16-bit muscle. Nintendo knew that an end to their 8-bit powerhouse was inevitable, but they weren't at peace with letting it die in a less than stellar way. The result was one of the greatest games to ever see the light of day for the system. |

Activision Anthology review (GBA)Reviewed on March 25, 2004Rumors have been around for years about a ''portable system that plays Atari 2600 games.'' Being one whose favorite motto has always been ''I'll believe it when I see it,'' I never gave in to the rumors. Perhaps a portable 2600 was released somewhere, but never nationwide or I'd be one of the first to have my greedy little hands on it. I was one of the first to get my hands on Activision Anthology, a collection of 55 Atari 2600 titles that were all made by what may be the best company tha... |

Mortal Kombat review (GG)Reviewed on March 14, 2004My how times change. When I was around 12 and 13, all I ever heard from my friends was how awesome Mortal Kombat and Mortal Kombat 2 were. It seemed like I was the only boy in the world that didn't live in the arcades during the day learning all of Mortal Kombat's moves and then stay up all night playing it at home. To me, it was just OK. Fast forward 10 years and now it seems like i'm an outcast yet again! Ask nearly any other reviewer and they'll be like, ''OMG! MORTAL ... |

Super Mario Kart review (SNES)Reviewed on February 29, 2004By 1992, Mario was tired and needed a long vacation. He had conquered the world of video games with engaging, classic platformers that all have his name on them. Super Mario Bros. had saved video games in thousands of people's eyes; Super Mario Bros. 2 was strange, yet classic nonetheless; Super Mario Bros. 3 became the biggest selling video game in history, and as many would argue, the best game ever up to this point. Finally, Super Mario World showed the world that ... |

Mega Man 2 review (NES)Reviewed on January 18, 2004Did you ever have any friends when you were a kid, like in elementary school, that you were best friends in the world with? It seemed like nothing could tear you apart. But one day down the road in high school, you two eventually became nothing more than just another face in the crowd to each other with seemingly no regard whatsoever as to the great times you've had in the past. You see a former friend you haven't seen in a few years in the hallway and part of you wants to walk up to them and sa... |

NBA Hangtime review (N64)Reviewed on January 17, 2004By the time of NBA Hangtime's release, the NBA Jam series had proved to the world that it deserves a place among the best sports games of all time. Even many non-sports video game fans (such as myself) loved NBA Jam and NBA Jam T.E. Both titles deemed themselves worthy of the Video Game Hall of Fame; it's unfortunate that there's no such thing. |

Pole Position review (ARC)Reviewed on January 16, 2004I remember a few years ago when just about every arcade I would go to had a Pole Position cabinet backed against a corner somewhere inside. Many of the small arcades (here's to remembering Battles Skating Rink!) didn't have any racing games but Pole Position. |

Centipede review (ARC)Reviewed on January 16, 2004Centipede. Now that was always a fun and original game. I had played and enjoyed it for years on the Atari 2600 before I ever saw it in the arcade. Once I finally got the chance to play the arcade version of it, I noticed that the graphics were a lot different from the 2600 version (well that's a gimme), and that the gameplay seemed a bit faster. But the biggest difference between the two is the way the game is controlled. |

Ms. Pac-Man review (ARC)Reviewed on January 16, 2004There's no doubt about it, I've played Ms. Pac-Man more than I have any other arcade game by a huge margin. This compelling sequel throws in everything that was great about Pac-Man, along with new things that make it all the much better. |

Pac-Man review (ARC)Reviewed on January 16, 2004I don't know for sure what the most popular arcade game of all time is, but I know that Pac-Man is definitely sitting pretty high on the list. The reason it was and still is so popular is because it's so simple to play. You won't have to use much of your brain at all to learn how to play Pac-Man, but if you want to learn strategy you might. Pac-Man was also a game that could easily become addicting after only one or two plays. |

Zombies Ate My Neighbors review (SNES)Reviewed on January 16, 2004You gotta love it when you buy a used game and don't have the instruction booklet for it and the game itself leaves you wondering what the real story is all about. In Zombies Ate My Neighbors, it's apparent that the world is under attack, and two kids get to live the dream of their lives. They get to be the heroes! We don't need any Superman leaping tall buildings or a Captain Picard to cruise through space; a skinny freak boy with 3D glasses and an average looking teenage girl who both w... |

Klax review (NES)Reviewed on January 05, 2004Some people are just so desperate to get rich quick, even if it means stealing another person's idea. The makers of Klax seemed to have an intention of cashing in on the success of the puzzle game that took the world by a raging storm, Tetris. If I didn't know any better, I'd assume that they did a poor job of cloning Tetris and getting rich off of it, since I'm the first one to review Klax for the NES on this massive site. |

Bassin's Black Bass with Hank Parker review (SNES)Reviewed on December 29, 2003First impressions aren’t always right. You’re a kid who just happens to have parents that don’t always get you what you want for Christmas. They know which video games you would kill to have and which genres you enjoy the most, but they’re stubborn. They’d rather live their life through your eyes and hands. It’s Christmas season again, and in yearly fashion, they get you something you never asked for—something they know you probably won’t like. Platformers are your type of game, and the occasion... |

Desert Strike: Return to the Golf review (GEN)Reviewed on December 28, 2003Back in the unforgettable 16-bit days when the Sega Genesis was fighting against the Super Nintendo for popularity, a classic series was born. My dad bought me Desert Strike for Christmas and at first glance I was a little disappointed; I didn't think I would like this kind of game. I would soon find out that I was more wrong than I thought possible. |

Galaga review (ARC)Reviewed on December 24, 2003I don't know many people my age who haven't played Galaga at one time or another. Galaga is a classic space shooter in which you control a spaceship at the bottom of the screen and attempt to exterminate all the aliens that are moving back and forth in the galaxy above you. Galaga wasn't the first game of its kind (Space Invaders and Galaxian paved the road for it to shoot down), but it was definitely the best of its kind back in the day. |

Lunar Rescue review (ARC)Reviewed on December 18, 2003In 1979, Americans' fascination with space was at its peak. The year marked the 10-year anniversary since man first stepped foot on the moon, and the country couldn't have been more into aliens and UFOs. Whether you were watching movies about them or playing the classics such as Space Invaders, interest in aliens was blooming faster than the speed of light. |

Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3 review (GBA)Reviewed on December 16, 2003In 1995, an unlikely legend was born. Still riding on the success of the blockbuster hit from four years earlier, Super Mario World, and the popularity of other classic titles such as Super Mario Kart and the various NES hits, it didn't seem like there was much more the Mario series could do to further its legend. Nintendo decided to pull another Super Mario Bros. 2 - to take a chance by going down the strange, unbeaten path once again. Why not go way back in Mario's history... |
