Zelda II: The Adventure of Link (NES)

Zelda II: The Adventure of Link review (NES)

Reviewed on August 16, 2002

The Adventure of Link is not at all like the original. They combined a 3D world with 2D areas. The fighting is more similiar to Castlevania then it is to the original Zelda. Really I do not understand why the original NES always changed the sequels so drastically from an already succesful formula. This is my least favorite Zelda game, for it could've been much better and I did not like how the game worked out, and the strange story.
Donkey Kong Land (Game Boy)

Donkey Kong Land review (GB)

Reviewed on August 14, 2002

Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong had hit the scene in Donkey Kong Country, and the world loved it. So quickly a gameboy game was created with the same characters and the same idea as Donkey Kong Country. Surprisingly enough, however, it was not a complete port of the SNES version, and actually it was a completely different game. That is for better of for worse, for Donkey Kong Country was a better game, but that is because there was so much more put into it. However this was the original gameboy, and ...
Super Mario World (SNES)

Super Mario World review (SNES)

Reviewed on August 08, 2002

Of course when the SNES was released it had to debut with a character that all the world had grown to know. That character was Mario, who had appeared in four games adventure games before the SNES was ever born. Mario was the SNES mascot, and he rivaled Sonic of Sega. So here we go, the game that made the Super Nintendo a must own when it first debut, and a great video game too. Super Mario World was one of the peaks in Mario's industry, and a fun experience.
Final Fantasy IX (PlayStation)

Final Fantasy IX review (PSX)

Reviewed on August 05, 2002

The Final Fantasy tradition continues for me. Each Final Fantasy game I play one ups the game I played before it. I thought it would end with Final Fantasy VII, such a great game that was, not likely to be beaten. And yet through the entire game Final Fantasy IX was right on it's tail, and it overthrew it with the perfect ending. See, you are basically buying a $20 movie with Final Fantasy IX, and a little bit of fun also. However I can think of millions of movies that are worse than the story s...
Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem (GameCube)

Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem review (GCN)

Reviewed on August 04, 2002

This is one of those games you wait and wait for, hoping that is everything you expected it to be. And it turns out it's not everything you expected it to be, it turns out to be so much more. Eternal Darkness is one of those games that stood out. Originally to be released by the Nintendo 64, then planned to be released on the early life of the Gamecube it kept being pushed off. Originally I only wanted this game because of the weak Gamecube lineup. That is why I bought the game, Gamecube really ...
Metroid II: Return of Samus (Game Boy)

Metroid II: Return of Samus review (GB)

Reviewed on August 03, 2002

Metroid had become a cult favorite, and an instant classic for the NES. Millions of gamers wanted a sequel for it, and the gameboy seemed the perfect place. They took the same strategy used to make the first one, and made Metroid II: The Return of Samus. However, like the first one, in my eyes it was a very overated game, not worth the money to buy it.
Metroid (NES)

Metroid review (NES)

Reviewed on August 01, 2002

Metroid has rather rapidly become a videogame legacy. However before the truth came out that Samus Aran's and before the famous sequel, led by Super Metroid, there was the original Metroid for the NES. This game is what spurred on the series, and in truth I really don't know how. I got this game early on in my NES's life in a bundle of about 10 games. At first this game was fun, but then the difficulty set in. You have to search every little corridor a million times, just to try and figure out w...
Street Fighter II (Game Boy)

Street Fighter II review (GB)

Reviewed on July 31, 2002

Everyone at there point in life has played a Street Fighter game. In my mind, discluding Mortal Kombat, it is the most known fighting game in America if not the world. However being deprived of the more high tech systems, my only link to Street Fighter was my little gameboy cartridge. However that link was still a good game, although not up to par with the rest of the series.
Super Solvers: Challenge of the Ancient Empires (PC)

Super Solvers: Challenge of the Ancient Empires review (PC)

Reviewed on July 30, 2002

If you asked me what game I have put the most time in over my entire life, it wouldn't be some console hit or a simulatoion game, or anything of that sorts. No, it would easily be Challenge of the Ancient Empires. I played this game day in and day out for 5 years. I have beaten it on the easier mode at least 50 times, and on the hardest mode (and there is a differnece) twice. This game is not easy, and in truth the age group 10+ is perfect for the game, although I beat it all at 9 :-) So, sure t...
The Simpsons: Bart vs. the World (NES)

The Simpsons: Bart vs. the World review (NES)

Reviewed on July 29, 2002

Videogames coming off television shows usually are short and with little replay value with them. However the one that stands above those rules is The Simpsons: Bart vs the World (here on known as S:BVTW). This is easily the only really good Simpsons game in my mind, although it is really an above average game. Sure it has it's technical problems, but it has alot of moments among it.
Donkey Kong Country (SNES)

Donkey Kong Country review (SNES)

Reviewed on July 27, 2002

Donkey Kong Country started a legacy of it's own. The original Donkey Kong game made over a decade ago, was about Donkey Kong kidnapping a beautiful woman. Now instead of Donkey Kong being the kidnapper, he is on the other side of it. So off he goes on a mission using typical side scroller skills (very similiar to Mario) creating a classic of his own.
Super Smash Bros. (Nintendo 64)

Super Smash Bros. review (N64)

Reviewed on July 25, 2002

Take your favorite nintendo characters and duke them out against one another. This is what Super Smash Brothers offers to the Nintendo 64 table. This game has deep gameplay, and is an addictive multiplayer fighter. I fell in love with this game when I first saw it advertised, and it was as good as I ever expected.
Bloody Roar: Primal Fury (GameCube)

Bloody Roar: Primal Fury review (GCN)

Reviewed on July 23, 2002

The Nintendo 64 had a very small collection of real fighters, and none that dominated the market. Well, the Gamecube knew that they needed to strengthen their fighting genre, and they signed on to Bloody Roar: Primal Fury. At first I thought this was to be some boring fighter, with just good graphics. However Bloody Roar is a very fun game, and definitely worth the buy if you are into fighters.
Mario Party (Nintendo 64)

Mario Party review (N64)

Reviewed on July 23, 2002

Truthfully, I never understood the fame Mario Party recieved. It is a good game with alot to do in it, however it really isn't that fun of a game when you have friends around and there are alot better games you could play. However Mario Party still was the party game to own for around a hundred different games were available to play throughout it. Many of them are button smashers, but a few scattered here and there are fun.
Super Mario 64 (Nintendo 64)

Super Mario 64 review (N64)

Reviewed on July 22, 2002

Super Mario 64 did a move that few would've expected, and that was switching to a 3D type of game. Instead of basically depending of jump, Super Mario 64 is an exploring game. Really the only thing similiar with the classic Mario and this one, is the fact that Mario/Peach/and Bowser are in it. However with all these changes Super Mario 64 is definitely a great game, and met with much success when it was released with the N64. And well, it better have bee good, cause it was the only game at the r...
Mario Golf (Nintendo 64)

Mario Golf review (N64)

Reviewed on July 18, 2002

When people have too much money then they can handle, they start buying a few rediculous games. With $60 and nothing to do with it, I went out and bought Mario Golf. Why? Cause I had money, and decided why not get a golf game, even if I hate golf. And it turns out Mario Golf is one of the best games on the Nintendo 64 for good reasons. I guess this excess money is not such a bad thing. hehehe.
Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 (Game Boy)

Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 review (GB)

Reviewed on July 18, 2002

Wario hit the gaming scene at the end of Super Mario Land 2, but he hit with popularity. Now Nintendo wanted to cash in on this new character, so out comes Wario Land, a game where you play as Wario instead of Mario. Little twist now, isn't it? You take a badguy to take on the badguys. Where are the heroes? Oh wait, they are letting Wario do their work. However Wario can jump on creatures like Mario, but why not bodyslam them for more fun. But he can't spit fire, so he is not at all like Mario r...
Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins (Game Boy)

Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins review (GB)

Reviewed on July 17, 2002

Mario had easily become the emblem of Nintendo, and possibly the most popular videogame character easily, rivally Sonic. So of course another Mario game came up on the gameboy, this one after they realized how to use the gameboys power for action games. This game kinda takes the ability of Super Mario World, as you pick your levels, and you may even choose what world to go to time to time. There are a good number of levels in this game. I don't know exactly but over 50, and gamepack saving for t...
Super Mario Land (Game Boy)

Super Mario Land review (GB)

Reviewed on July 16, 2002

Super Mario Land was one of the first tests of the original game. To get a smooth action game, unlike the puzzle games that started it off. This is no easy feat, for the gameboy was not powerfully tested, and did not have any action games. Then Castlevania Adventure and Super Mario Land came out, one showing why it could do action games, another why it is weakened. However Super Mario Land showed that an action game could be made. It mostly resembles Super Mario Bros 1, with the simple jump game...
Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES)

Super Mario Bros. 3 review (NES)

Reviewed on July 16, 2002

Super Mario Bros 3 took the ideas in the first and expanded them into a much bigger, and a much better game. Sure, it isn't the first, therefor not the instant classic, however for most this is the Mario game they've put the most time in. At least it is for me.
