Donkey Kong Land 2 (Game Boy)

Donkey Kong Land 2 review (GB)

Reviewed on November 28, 2002

Instead of making it an entirely new Donkey Kong game, like they did before, this time they just ported the game as accurately as they could from the SNES. That was really not a bad mood, for Donkey Kong Country 2 was a very good game, and Donkey Kong Land 2 lives up to it nicely.
Capcom vs. SNK 2: Mark of the Millennium 2001 (PlayStation 2)

Capcom vs. SNK 2: Mark of the Millennium 2001 review (PS2)

Reviewed on November 27, 2002

Do we all remember Street Fighter from the good ol' days? I always will, as that is one series which shook the ground from under me. So when I saw that there was another fighter with the Street Fighter characters in it, I knew I had to pick it up. And yet after awhile I found myself using fighters that I have never seen before. That is the beauty of Capcom vs SNK. There are so many fighters to choose from, that there is a new one to learn each and every moment.
F-Zero: Maximum Velocity (Game Boy Advance)

F-Zero: Maximum Velocity review (GBA)

Reviewed on November 27, 2002

F-Zero X was a grand game for the N64, and showed that there were more than just kart racing and car racing in the racing industry. Now there was the master of hovercrafts, who had appeared in two different games on two different systems. So why not make another one on the GBA. The GBA was as powerful as a Super Nintendo and the original F-Zero was good, so this one could be just as good. And it was good, but not great as it had some weaknesses.
Donkey Kong (Game Boy)

Donkey Kong review (GB)

Reviewed on November 25, 2002

The original Donkey Kong from the Nintendo industry was a huge hit. That is one of the things that put them on the board, and why not give people the chance to play it around a decade later on the new handheld gameboy. But you can't just give them the old Donkey Kong game itself. You have to make it bigger, MUCH bigger. And that is what they did, and they created a very entertaining experience.
Grand Theft Auto III (PlayStation 2)

Grand Theft Auto III review (PS2)

Reviewed on November 23, 2002

Now and then there is a game that comes along that is like nothing else. A game that lets you live out your darkside, that everyone inevitably has. To be able to go ''whack'' some punk boy on the street, or go Kamikaze with cops shooting at you. Pedestrians at the sidewalk are at your mercy. You are in complete control in whether or not hundreds or people may live. And likely you won't let them live. That is Grand Theft Auto: 3. It is rightly rated Mature, as it is based on the darkside of the w...
Animal Crossing (GameCube)

Animal Crossing review (GCN)

Reviewed on November 22, 2002

Animal Crossing barely made it to America. Can you believe that... It was originally Animal Forest and released it to Japan. They then improved upon the game and set up a release for America. I was psyched, I love the Harvest Moon series, and I thought a game just like Harvest Moon without the farming would be a classic in itself. And that is what Animal Crossing, a game with such detail and such power that it is one of the must haves for the Gamecube and one of the most popular games to date, a...
Jacac (NES)

Jacac review (NES)

Reviewed on November 20, 2002

Buy big collections of games from various people, you always have the fillers, and that is what Jacac is; a filler. For a filler it isn't that bad, and it is very similiar to the much more famous Iron Tank. You ride around in a tank and shoot them from your barrels. Not something worth buying, but when you buy big collections you always have the no names and at least this one is somewhat fun.
Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance (Game Boy Advance)

Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance review (GBA)

Reviewed on November 20, 2002

I am a Castlevania fanatic, and follow each and every one of them like a cult member follows his leader. You could say I am a member of the Castlevania cult. The games suck you in with it's excellent gameplay, and keep you there with it's addictive entertainment. Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance is no exception to this spectacular series. This is one of the tops in the series, although it is not the best Castlevania on the GBA. That doesn't change anything still, it is a must have for any GBA ...
Jet Force Gemini (Nintendo 64)

Jet Force Gemini review (N64)

Reviewed on November 18, 2002

Some games get alot of fame in the press, but not in the sales, and Jet Force Gemini is the perfect game. It had quickly gained it's own cult fans, and was getting absurdly high reviews by professionals and minors alike. Did it deserve these high grades? Not one bit. There is nothing really memorable from Jet Force Gemini, not in gameplay, story, or graphical mode. Sure, it is mediocre in all those categories, but it follows the same formula that every Rare game takes. Exploring each and every a...
Balloon Fight (NES)

Balloon Fight review (NES)

Reviewed on November 16, 2002

An interesting game of sorts. The point is to drop down on your balloon, and pop your opponents balloons before they do the vice-versa to you. This is a very old game, and yet it was easily one of the best games for the NES, until at least it's later years. It was an interesting idea, with great gameplay.
Yoshi's Cookie (NES)

Yoshi's Cookie review (NES)

Reviewed on November 15, 2002

At one point in my life I was given the choice whether to purchase Yoshi's Cookie or Dr. Mario. Both fairly famous puzzle games, in the end I decided to pick up Yoshi's Cookie, because it looked fairly innovative. It also had Yoshi, who was a great spokesfigure. However if it was the good decision or not, I will not know until I get my hands on Dr. Mario. Yoshi's Cookie is a mediocre puzzle game at best, but it wasn't a complete disapointment.
Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec (PlayStation 2)

Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec review (PS2)

Reviewed on November 15, 2002

There have been many crappy racing games throughout time. The majority of them, quite frankly, aren't worth the space they take up on the end table. However for every five or so crappy racing game, one that stands on top is released. Gran Turismo 3 makes up for those 5 crappy games, and much more of the racing industry. If you could only buy one racing game at this moment, then this would be the obvious choice for purchase. In a genre littered with mistakes, one great game stands at the top.
Clu Clu Land (NES)

Clu Clu Land review (NES)

Reviewed on November 14, 2002

The origin of Nintendo begins before the epic quests with the simple games. Clu Clu Land is one of those simple games, but is immensely fun. Personally this is an NES game with alot going for it. It's a puzzle game, as many original NES games were, but it is entertaining and very innovative.
Super Metroid (SNES)

Super Metroid review (SNES)

Reviewed on November 14, 2002

Metroid is one of the most famous series that has ever crossed the earth, and one of nintendo's main claim to fame is this series. However, I do not beleive that the first two Metroids were worthy of that fame. Quite frankly they were very disapointing games to me, and I can tell you many other games I'd rather play. Super Metroid, however, is a game that is actually FUN at times. I did not really expect that, after boring my way into the first two Metroids. This is the only game slightly deserv...
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (PlayStation 2)

Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty review (PS2)

Reviewed on November 14, 2002

To make my triumphant return into the world of videogame reviews, I will start with one of the great classics for Playstation 2: Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. Metal Gear was a classic game for the NES that based on stealth, instead of quick button pressing. Than came a game only released in Japan. Time went on, and the game that made Solid Snake a household name was made, Metal Gear Solid. After the success of that game, it was obvious we would see a sequel, and Playstation 2 did just tha...
Super Solvers: Treasure Mountain (PC)

Super Solvers: Treasure Mountain review (PC)

Reviewed on September 02, 2002

All of us remember our first videogame. For some of us, it is a game like Mario or Pong, for others some unknown game for the PC, or possibly a game on the Intellivision. While that game may not be loved by many, for us our original game holds an important place in our heart. Super Solvers: Treasure Mountain is that game to me, and sure enough it is special to me. Now very few of you know of this game, and fewer still probably loved it like I did. But for me, this was my childhood and my introdu...
Cabal (NES)

Cabal review (NES)

Reviewed on August 25, 2002

This game is a simple 3rd person shooter, where you take out loads of enemies at a time. That is the whole point of Cabal, mass killing. I LOVED this game, as it had the best 2-player out of any game on the entire original Nintendo Entertainment System. With all my modern systems I have today, I still play Cabal when my friend Paul comes over, because we have been doing this for at least five years now. It is like a tradition, cause it is a hilariously fun game, and there is no waiting between c...
Chrono Trigger (SNES)

Chrono Trigger review (SNES)

Reviewed on August 23, 2002

If you are a fan of the classic games, then most likely you have heard of Chrono Trigger. Very few games were more succesful and had more cult fans than one of Squares greatest accomplishes. Square is most known for their Final Fantasy series, however those are not the only RPG's they created. They also created Crono Trigger, as one of their last games for the SNES. It was a typical RPG, except that you could see your enemies before battle and it had an innovative time system. The idea for Crono...
Super Mario Kart (SNES)

Super Mario Kart review (SNES)

Reviewed on August 21, 2002

Now for this review to be honestly fair, you must understand where I am coming from. I was not one of the ones who had experience Super Mario Kart when it was first released, nor before I had even played it's sequel. I only got it around three months ago when I got my Super Nintendo, seeing I wanted the original Mario Kart. I was kinda dissapointed with the experience but that is understandable. I will try to understand this game when it was originally released, but really I guess I can't. Howev...
Devil May Cry (PlayStation 2)

Devil May Cry review (PS2)

Reviewed on August 19, 2002

I know millions of people will be up and arms when I say this, but I think Devil May Cry was Capcoms greatest achievement. Here me out before you go out and get your pitchforks and torches. Anybody can play Devil May Cry, and anyone can have fun with it. There is only one real flaw in the game, and it is a great experience nonetheless. There is a simple combination of strategy, skill, and a large handful of pure action. A great combination for a quick pickup, and loads of fun.
