I used to be able to play games for HOURS, but lately it seems I have the attention span of a cockroach.
Playing a game for an hour in a row is considered an achievement for me. Xenosaga Episode 1 is the only game in a long time to really hook me.
Even games like FF12 and Tales of the Abyss failed to keep my attention for long periods of time.
Lately though, besides Xenosaga, I've been playing Seiken 3 for hours on end, and last night I started Suikoden and played it for 2 hours straight.
Anyone else go through gaming withdrawls and find it hard for games to hook them?

EmP - May 25, 2007 (11:01 AM) Yeah, I burn myself out and have no interest in playing games. Then I hit something good and it starts a chain effect where I eat away all my spare time playing games that have been sitting unplayed on my shelf for years. POint in case: I've owned Draken on the PS2 for years, never touched it. Now, I've played 5 hours in two days. |

honestgamer - May 25, 2007 (11:18 AM) Things go in cycles for me. I'll play a bunch of games, burn out and do something else, then come back and play a bunch more. That's why I buy any games that interest me, because someday I'll play them even if it's years down the road. When you love games, even lulls are just an interruption. Eventually, you'll get back into playing all the time, which is why people who encounter a brief lull and sell all their games are so depressing. I would hate to be around when they realize how much they miss gaming and their great games. |

Halon - May 25, 2007 (12:25 PM) Right now I'm playing Dungeon Siege 2 and enjoying it which is odd. I can no longer play games that take dedication to them. The only games I enjoy now are ones I can pick up and play any time. |

Genj - May 25, 2007 (01:17 PM) When I bought Half Life 2 during a weekend I was home from school, I played it nonstop. Recently I couldn't put Prince of Persia: Two Thrones down. Now I'm only slowly going through Kingdom Hearts II. Games that you need to play for extended periods of time just get hard to throw yourself into when you get older I guess. |

carcinogen_crush - May 25, 2007 (01:54 PM) I can't even convince myself to play anymore. All I feel like doing, is sitting around and looking at things. |

bluberry - May 25, 2007 (08:50 PM) my experience seems to echo the common one that every now and then a game that I really like breaks me out of my gaming slump and keeps me in Friday night playing it (usually it's drinking alone and bitterly masturbating that does that for me). I really dug into Tony Hawk 8 for a while, and Dead Rising seems like it's a total blast too. |

jiggs - May 27, 2007 (09:21 AM) there was a time i recall where i was playing less and less games. that was around 2000-03. i attribute that to a combination of uninspiring games, lack of funds to play these games, music becoming the dominant hobby and the internet. i was disatisfied/disillusioned with Nintendo and the N64 after Ocarina of Time period. other than Final Fantasy and some other games, i couldn't give a shit about Sony at the time because they were new. i would have loved Sega, but their future was in doubt. i started picking up on games again when a co-worker friend of mine loved playing video games. it also helped that i had a crush on her. going over to her place and playing some PS2 rekindled my interest. i still put in alot of hours, but not as much as i used to. one thing though, i don't have as much patience with RPG's like I used to and long games. a good 10 to 15 hour action adventure game is epic enough for me. |
