Limbo reaches 1 million sold, heads to Mac

Sure, it might not have managed to sell 6.5 million units in 24 hours, but indie developer Playdead is more than happy about their 2010 downloadable platformer, Limbo, reaching the million copies sold mark. The financial success of the title, which is currently available for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, has allowed Playdead to fully acquire the company from its early investors.
"With the success that Limbo has achieved, we felt this was the ideal time to fully regain our independence,” said Dino Patti, Playdead's CEO, in a press release. “We are grateful to everyone who supported us over the past few years, and look forward to forging new partnerships that will both let us reach new heights as a studio and give our director, Arnt Jensen, room to grow creatively.”
Playdead, based in Denmark, will now be "laying the groundwork" for the development of its next title.
But they're not done spreading the Limbo love, as the studio has also announced the monochromatic indie game is headed to Mac by the end of 2011. An exact release date wasn't offered, but our press release promised more information on the pending Mac date at a later date on the game's official site. So if you still haven't played this one because you detest developers who ignore your Mac, it's time to get happy, I guess.
And if you're on the fence about it, maybe our review can help persuade you.
