Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment today announced the quirky, team-based first-person shooter inspired by the world of Batman, Gotham City Impostors, will hit Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on Jan. 10, 2012. The Monolith-developed game was announced just before E3 2011.
If this is your first time hearing about Gotham City Impostors, well, let's just say it's an extremely far cry from the recently successful Batman: Arkham City. The download-only title is a team-based, competitive multiplayer shooter for up to 12 players (two teams of six). Here's where the quirkiness comes in: The two factions in the game are called the Bats and Jokerz, homages to the two DC universe characters each team idolizes -- Batman and The Joker.
Your player avatar will be highly customizable, but depending on the team you're playing for, your customization options will be limited to Batman-like looks or Joker-like styles. It definitely gets even weirder, as each team will have access to homemade equipment and weapons to take each other out with, and they'll do their battling on maps and game modes inspired by the Batman world. While the recently launched Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 offers players modern combat, Warner Bros. aptly calls this type of battle "unconventional urban warfare." Indeed, I'd say an overweight fellow with a green afro and face paint, who's carrying a weapon that lets him detect body odor (while he rides rollerblades), is a bit unconventional on today's battlefield.
The title definitely sounds and looks very intriguing, and luckily, you might be able to get a sneak peek at it when the game runs through an open beta this December. Be sure to sign up for it and/or look up more info on Gotham City Impostors at its official website.
