Limited Run Games is collaborating with Sunsoft and Yuichi Ueda on Trip World DX. Pre-orders are available until June 11

Trip World for the Game Boy was released in Japan and Europe on Game Boy, but never saw a release stateside. Limited Run Games is working directly with Sunsoft in Japan and original director, Yuichi Ueda on Trip World DX which will be coming to PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Game Boy Color, and PC.

The original game was cost prohibitive to purchase in its original form from Japan/Europe. It would cost hundreds for just a loose copy and thousands for a boxed edition. The game was also often bootlegged. This DX release of Trip World should finally make the game more accessible in this region.

Limited Run Games has access to the design documents and music to help bring the experience to life. The original color palette that Sunsoft intended to use in an eventual color version is being implemented in the DX version of Trip World. Limited Run Games' Carbon engine is being utilized to emulate the original game while adding the visual upgrade without degrading performance as Alex Verrey mentioned on LinkedIn. Limited Run Games previously worked with WayForward to bring out physical releases of Shantae and River City Girls 2.

You may pre-order Trip World DX until June 11, 2023 directly at Limited Run Games.

Episode One of the Carboncast from Limited Run Games featured Josh Fairhurst, CEO of Limited Run Games; Joe Modzeleski, Development Director; Dimitris Giannakis, Lead Engineer (Modern Vintage Gamer); and Randy Linden, Development Tools Programmer.
