Sinister director and co-writer attached to Deus Ex: Human Revolution movie
Let's put all of our praxis points into our Optimism augment.
I can be pretty pessimistic when it comes to video game movies actually happening after they're announced. Every year we see huge gaming properties optioned for films, then wedged right into development hell. But with the addition of a director/writer and co-writer who are fairly hot in Hollywood right now, it looks like at least one potentially exciting project may actually happen.
"Sinister" and "The Exorcism of Emily Rose" director Scott Derrickson has been attached to helm the film adaptation of Deus Ex: Human Revolution for CBS Films. Once again, Derrickson will team up with C. Robert Cargill (his "Sinister" co-writer) on the screenplay.
Derrickson states about the project: "Deus Ex is a phenomenal cyberpunk game with soul and intelligence. By combining amazing action and tension with big, philosophical ideas, Deus Ex is smart, ballsy, and will make one hell of a movie. Cargill and I can't wait to bring it to the big screen."
"Sinister" proves that these two know how to tackle a genre film. It's a tense and properly terrifying horror movie--as long as you avoid the spoilerific trailer. Before co-writing the film with Derrickson, Cargill made his living for years as a film critic. You can tell just from his appearances on the /Filmcast that this man knows what makes a good film.
I never asked for this, but I'm definitely looking forward to it.
