Valve Demos Working Portal Turrets
They're non-lethal... for now.
They’re non-lethal... for now.
The infamous Portal turrets are probably the most adorable lethal killing machines ever envisaged. Finally (and frankly, it’s a crime that it took this long), you’ll soon be able to own one... albeit with slightly reduced firepower. Valve has shown off a full-size turret that swaps guns for flashing lights, but otherwise behaves just like the in-game turrets we all know and love.
The turret is manufactured by Gaming Heads and is due out in time for the holiday season. It’ll set you back $300, and you’ll likely have to act fast to get your hands on one. Earlier this year ThinkGeek offered up a limited number of replica Portal Guns and saw them sell out in half an hour.

There’s a bit of confusion over at PC Gamer at the moment about whether the turret featured in the video is the same one that will be on sale at Gaming Heads. The video was posted on TheValveStore on Facebook, which does suggest that the one you see here will be available at some point.
Remember, kids: a turret is for life, not just for Christmas.
