PlayStation All-Stars Etc. is the first retail game in Sony's Cross Buy program

Buy it once, get it twice.

One of the nifty things about the Vita is being able to buy select PS3 PSN games and getting the Vita version for free. MotorStorm RC and Sound Shapes are two more popular examples.

Sony announced at their Gamescom conference today that they plan to extend that perk to retail games, beginning with PlayStaion All-Stars: Battle Royale. If you buy the PS3 version, you'll get a copy of the Vita version at no extra charge.

Other games to benefit from the program include Sly Cooper Collection and Ratchet & Clank: Qforce. Finally, crossplay has a reason to exist. Kind of.

It's probably only for select games because, from what I understand, it costs quite a bit to have a port made for the Vita, despite it being a download-only system.

EA has basically said they're thinking about getting in on the Cross Buy program. (How's that for an online pass?) Sony has only announced those three games for it.

Vita isn't download-only but it's probably safe to assume that the Vita versions of the games included in the program will be the download versions. Porting from PS3 to Vita isn't *that* hard, but it is extra work that not every developer or publisher is going to think is worth the funding and manpower.

If the tiny Sound Shapes team could release that game on PS3 and Vita at the same time, it can't be that difficult.
