Various PS3 and PSP game servers being shut down soon-ish

EA's not the only publisher that shuts down servers.

Sony has announced plans to shut down the servers for a few PSP games, as well as one PS3 game.

As of August 31st, you'll no longer be able to play The Eye of Judgement Legends online. Then, later, on October 1st, Sony intends to shut down the servers for SOCOM: Fire Team Bravo 3, Motorstorm: Pacific Rift, and Motorstorm: Arctic Edge.

Naturally, you'll still be able to play these games offline, but if you finally want to try online play in Eye of Judgement, now's the time to give it a shot.

Do shut downs occur based on the amount of use the servers are getting? Have the big companied ever shut down a server that's seeing a ton of match ups?

I hear these particular games don't have much activity any more. EA probably shuts down relatively active games, though, just because they shut down so many of them, and they're not always that old.
