Darksiders II confirmed for Aug. 14 release

Your date with Death is now verified.

Darksiders II will land on store shelves on Aug. 14, according to Brian Farrell, CEO for THQ, the game's publisher. Farrell confirmed the game's release today during a THQ investor conference call.

The sequel to 2010's Darksiders was initially slated for a June 2012 release, but was pushed back to an unspecified date in August last month. Farrell today called that delay a "demonstration of our commitment to quality," according to Joystiq.

He went on to note Darksiders II pre-orders are currently five times that of its predecessor. And that's good news for THQ, especially after a, well, not very good fiscal fourth quarter of 2012.

OUCH. holy shit those numbers in the fiscal year. Saying it's five times the pre-orders may not mean much with those kind of numbers.

"Hey guys, remember how last year we only had 20 preorders? Guess what?! This year, we're up by FIVE TIMES as many!"

I wish them all the best, of course. I never played Darksiders, though >_>

Darksiders wasn't particularly good or particularly bad -- it was competent, and that's about it. Any "hype" for the sequel is manufactured.

The most notable thing about Darksiders is that it's one of the few games I can think of that suffered simply by having a story (as opposed to overly-long cutscenes, etc). They set you up as being one of the four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, but then you spend most of the game on foot. So instead of enjoying the game for what it was, I kept wondering when I was finally going to get to ride my sweet-ass horse.

That sounds like a great foundation for a review of the game. I went looking for one on the site, but as far as I can tell, there isn't one.

Most people I've talked to that played Darksiders liked it a lot. So I'm not sure I would agree that hype was manufactured. At the same time, it's not like anyone loved it more than the game it most tried to clone, Zelda. So it's a competent adventure game with a dark tone that has potential to produce an improved sequel. I'm watching its progress with genuine interest.

What? Zelda? I've heard it's most like God of War.
