BioWare announced today its first Mass Effect 3 "content initiative," the Extended Cut downloadable content, which will be released on all of the game's platforms this summer free of charge.

The DLC will give "fans seeking further clarity" on the game's ending some "deeper insights" on the end of Shepard's journey. In other words, BioWare is trying to appease the mass of fans who've quite vocally let us know they find Mass Effect 3's standard ending unacceptable, and, in turn, sparked countless Internet debates on art, its alteration and what big companies "owe" their customers.

“Since launch, we have had time to listen to the feedback from our most passionate fans and we are responding," said Ray Muzyka, BioWare's co-founder, in a press release. "With the Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut, we think we have struck a good balance in delivering the answers players are looking for while maintaining the team’s artistic vision for the end of this story arc in the Mass Effect universe.”

Muzyka initially promised more news on Mass Effect 3's "content initiatives" last month, and with the Extended Cut's announcement, he's kept his word. We'll let you know once he and his studio announce a firm release date for the free DLC.

Are you happy now, you whiny little bunch, you?
