My thoughts on the Wii
November 03, 2006

I've got to say, I don't really care much for the Wii. At all.

I don't care to play it, though I will admit the new Super Smash Bros. has me intrigued, but other than that nothing's really piquing my interest. I mean, I understand they mean well with stuff like this...

...but the idea of flailing my arms around in order to play a videogame sounds really...bad to me. And this is coming from a guy who thought the Virtual Boy would revolutionize the gaming market (I was young and foolish!)

But if you like the Wii, fine. You have a write play what you like. Maybe you enjoy something about it I just can't see. More power to you.

All I ask is that you stop with the stupid Wii puns. PLEASE.

Wiivolution...Wii will rock you...Wii believe in Nintendo...it's idiotic. It was mildly clever with the Wiimote, but now you're just beating a dead horse. A dead, decaying, smelly dead horse.

I completely agree with you. I don't hate the Wii because it is Nintendo or something stupid like that, I just don't think the idea of waving a remote at a TV is fun. I would much rather sit at my PC or use a regular controller to play a game. To me it seems like a novelty that is fun for ten minutes.

Not even at your TV, dear chums, but at a barcode that you have to stick onto your TV.

Bring forth the new age. The age of the Wiitard.

When I think "Wii" I think of . . .

My problem with the Wii is that the library of games just aren't compelling. The motion sensor thing is kind of lame and it will no doubt be awkward, but developers will probably just ignore the Wiimote after the first year and focus on using the 'retro controller' for games. The real problem is that the system is launching this month and high caliber titles like Smash Bros Brawl and Super Mario Galaxy are no where in sight.

That would be a rocking ad campaign if the "real person" was a legit brawny muscular dude dressed up in costume like the game character.

But it's not.

I now have a sour taste in my mouth. It could be becase I just took a dose of DayQuil, but the taste of Listerine-esque medicine is far better than the current taste. And what is it, you ask?

Disgust. And a little bit of contempt.

How could Nintendo drop so far?

I really wish they'd stop using trendy kids in these Wii ads. Also, the Gamecube's controller is fully compatible with the Wii (right?), so I'm sure developers will end up focusing on that instead of the retro controller.

If that's true, THANK GOD. I'm not sure if I could play that console with the damn WIIMOTE, but now, I feel a little better.

If it's true.

I may end up buying a Wii because deep down, I'm a sucker and there's going to be a Pokemon RPG on there. -_- Damn my guilty love for Pokemon!!!

Is think it speaks volumes about the Wiimote when people are crossing their fingers for developers to program games for the Gamecube controller.

The problem with the Wii controller is that there's only so many games it can really work well for. All I can think of are first person games, whether it's a shooter or a slasher like Maken X, "mini game" games like Wario Ware, that would actually benefit from something like the remote, some sports games (like Tennis, and Baseball), and etc. It just doesn't seem practical for Zelda, or any other game that involves more than swinging a sword or shooting a gun unless they start developing the full-body WiiSuit(tm) (ERP: 500$).

Yeah, I can't wait to prance around my living and wave my WiiWand in the air!

We all can't wait.
