EmP - January 02, 2008 (08:23 AM) XII isn't on this list. It is a good list. VI needs to be higher, though. As in, at the top. |

It might move up a space when it's all said and done, but probably not. It's not a bad game, but I hate the new-age RPG trend where so many of them make virtually all the difficult (ie: fun) stuff "optional". And it seems every fun, challenging battle here is an optional mark or esper. |

sashanan - January 02, 2008 (02:15 PM) I haven't gotten around to FFXII yet, but some of the things I've heard are not comforting. Then again, from FF8 onwards (and possibly earlier but I wasn't paying attention yet at that time), the newest Final Fantasy is always the one that seems to catch the most flak, and a lot of it dissipates and opinions soften as a new target arises. Although it wasn't my first RPG by a long shot, Final Fantasy 7 *was* my first brush with the series. A favorite is hard to call as I haven't played the series all that much. I've tried most of them and finished about half, but in most cases, only once and with a minimal amount of sidequesting. For an RPG fanatic I tend to skip a lot of what these games have to offer; always looking to play a new one and I just can't find the time to exhaust any of them. |

Felix_Arabia - January 02, 2008 (02:34 PM) I can't believe none of these lists have Final Fantasy Adventure (even if it really isn't Final Fantasy proper). |

overdrive - January 02, 2008 (04:56 PM) Felix Well, I hadn't thought of Mystic Quest, but if I'd planned to include it, it'd be right there with FF IIj in the "this game sucks too bad to be in a Top 10 list of FF games" category. Brain-dead coma patients have gone on the record complaining about how that game's too simplistic.... |

honestgamer - January 02, 2008 (05:15 PM) Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest is a great game. I didn't include it on the list because it's not a proper entry in the series. Neither is Final Fantasy Tactics or Final Fantasy Adventure or Final Fantasy Legend or Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles and so forth. |

overdrive - January 02, 2008 (08:40 PM) My bad Felix....all those games that are FF in name only blend together. For the quick recap... FF Adventure: The first Mana game. FF Legend: The first three Saga games. FF Tactics: Turn-based strategy game with FF stuff in it. FF Mystic Quest: Steaming pile of poo imitating RPG. Don't listen to Venter (or anyone else who says it's good). This is an RPG minus anything resembling a challenge. I guess if you ever got killed in one and thought, "man, these games aren't for me", this game might be for you, but that's it. FF Magical XXX Porn Journey: Only exists in my mind....currently. |
