It's been a while since I've been here, and I can firmly blame a(nother) medical issue for it. Nothing serious. Just an auto-immune reaction called urticaria that no one understands well enough to do anything other than throw pills at. I'm sure we all know the story of having to wait months to see a specialist. Be at ease: It's no better up here in Canada, though at the moment things are significantly worse in the US.

I'm so sorry, ladies, gents and all. I'm voting the smartest way I can up here in defense of civilized society - which is to say the one that respects all life and seeks to actually provide the ability for us to care for each other. I'm watching closely as the Cheeto in Chief does the unspeakable to American Democracy while everyone else stares on in abject amazement and disbelief. I'm grateful for the few notables (AOC and Sanders) among those who stand up for right.

I've been touting those voices on BlueSky while Canada decides how to vote in the hopes that it will survive in the days and years to come.

So there's that.

I'm still writing, and while my medical condition nears its end, I'm approaching the completion of Bachelor's degree in Science as I study Marriage and Family at BYU Idaho. A couple more months and the condition will end. They don't know why it starts, and they don't know why it stops.

Oh yeah, how do y'all feel about the Switch 2? Technologically it's a marvel and the only possible step forward for Nintendo. I'm on the fence about getting it, specially given the price. I plan to wait it out and see how reception is. The idea of running Breath of the Wild at a solid 60fps at "real HD" resolution is appealing.

GameCube titles on the SW2 (?) look cool too, but is Ninty running out of steam? I won't excuse that pun. We'll see how things go. I'm of the impression that gaming is about to become less important for a whole lot of people this year. I'm grateful to be moving into an industry focused on helping people. Without family we have no society, culture or world. Just a planet floating in space.

I am determined not to lose focus on doing good works. If I've got time to swing by here and share some of my gaming exploits, I'll do that. I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for all the support over the years in the event my priorities shift to those more practical, like growing food.

Which they will, but we'll see how quickly that happens.

Entertainment and distraction are always useful, and sometimes they are more important than at other times. Arguably, they're more important than ever when the world is burning around you but there's not a lot you can personally do about it. I see a lot of people turning to entertainment from relief, as we did during the height of the pandemic. And the Switch 2 looks like just the platform to give me the entertainment that will matter most to me.

@honestgamer - I'm thrilled to see Nintendo pushing the envelope with the most technically relevant console they've made in decades (the Wii2PlusExtraDualScreenWTHDude doesn't count). The appeal of the games they're touting is unmistakable. I find that I want to find an excuse to review another game...and I might yet, still looking for the right one. As usual, you hit the nail on the head, and it's the cow that Ninty is milking: "The entertainment that will matter most to me." That there's priorities, folks.

My wife and I still sink time into Super Mario: Wonder, Mario Kart 8, and the that 51 game in one thing. Maybe I will justify the leap to new hardware, but on the other hand...for once I don't see the value in it. That's just where I'm at. People can make the mistake of succumbing to FOMO, but most of us average gamers understand that the latest and greatest hardware and software doesn't matter. Chess has its place in the world, and well...nuff said.
