Inventory Items

Bait
You can drop this on the ground and nearby enemies will be lured towards it, making it easier for you to attack. In some dungeons, you need to give this to a Moblin in order to progress.

Blue Candle
This candle that can be bought in some shops allows you to burn bushes, enemies, etc. However, it can only be used once per screen, so if you want to use it again, you must continue to the next screen and it'll be replenished.

Blue Ring
This special ring protects Link from 1/2 as much damage as normal. It can only be bought in one shop in the entire game, and its price is quite steep, but it's worth it!

Bomb
Use this explosive to either attack enemies or blow open secret rooms in the overworld and in the dungeons. In the start, you can only hold a certain amount of bombs, but as you go on, you can find an Old Man that'll allow you to carry more, but for a small price.

Boomerang
You can throw this at an enemy to temporarily stun them, or to collect distant items, such as rupees and bombs. There are two types of Boomerangs as well: the Wooden Boomerang and the Metal Bommerang. You find the Wooden one first, which can only be thrown a short distance, but the Metal Boomerang found later can go much farther.

Bow
Use this to shoot arrows at the enemies from a distance. Arrows can be bought from some shops, and they're more expensive than bombs, but they help alot when you need to keep your distance from an enemy. However, each time you shoot an Arrow, you lose 1 rupee, so use them sparingly. You normally use Wooden Arrows to attack, but late in the game you get Silver Arrows, which are crucial to defeating Ganon.

Ladder
Use this to walk across narrow sections of water to get across.

Letter
This letter allows you to buy Water of Life from an Old Woman throughout the game. Without it, you cannot buy anything from her.

Magic Book
This book is basically an upgrade to the Magic Wand. When you use the wand, after the beam hits its target, flames appear to cause added damage.

Magic Key
Found late in the game, this special key voids the need for regular Keys in the dungeons anymore. It can open any locked door, and it helps in areas lacking small Keys.

Magic Wand
This magical wand can be used to shoot beams at enemies in the distance. After you get the Magic Book, its power increases since flames will also appear when a target is hit.

Power Bracelet
You can use this to push aside rocks in the overworld, which reveal underground passageways. This is extremely useful, and it's recommended you go find it as soon as possible!

Raft
Use this at a dock and you'll float to an otherwise unreachable area.

Red Candle
This much better candle works just like the Blue Candle, but you can use it unlimited times per screen. That makes it much easier when using it to burn down bushes to find secret passages and such.

Red Ring
This second protection ring protects Link so he only takes 1/4 damage from enemies than he would if he had no ring at all. It's found in the final dungeon, and it's well worth finding there, too.

Shield
Here's your basic protection from rocks, fireballs, arrows, and other projectile attacks. You start the game with the regular Shield, but you can buy the Large Shield which can protect from fireballs and other stuff the smaller shield couldn't.

Sword
This is your main weapon to use when battling enemies; press A to use it. There are 3 different swords you can get: the Wooden Sword, White Sword, and Magical Sword. You start the game with the Wooden Sword, and you can find/obtain the other two swords later in the game.

Water of Life

This special medicine, bought from Old Women, can completely heal Link when used. You must first give the Letter to an Old Woman in order to buy this medicine from her. There are two types of this Water of Life: Blue and Red. Blue Water can only be used once, and the Red one can be used twice. When you use a Red Water, it turns blue, which means you can only use it once more before it disappears.

Whistle
Use this on the overworld to warp to entrances of dungeons you've already visited. You must also use this in order to defeat a certain boss, and open up another dungeon late in the game.

Non-Inventory/Dungeon Items

Compass
It places a red dot on the map, which will point out where the Triforce piece is located.

Map
It displays a map of all the rooms of the dungeon on your screen, whether you explored them or not.

Rupee
The money you use to buy items. There are 2 types of rupees: 1-rupee and 5-rupee pieces. The 5 rupee one is totally blue, while the 1 will flash orange and blue.

Small Key
Use this to open a locked door in a dungeon.

Stopwatch
Rarely dropped by enemies, this freezes all enemies onscreen. You cannot be damaged when touching them in this state, and they stay frozen until you leave the screen.
