Yeah, I'd say any game that gives you the option to do stuff and then just cuts out and returns after said stuff has been done is pretty flawed in execution. Can't say I'm a fan of games of this sort, but I think that if I was, I'd consider the immersive factor of digging into someone's life and trying to influence it to be a big part of the draw, so for that to be chopped up like that would kind of ruin the experience.

I think the most interesting thing about this game, from your review, is just how it fits into what seems to be at least a fairly new genre based solely on living "real life". Doesn't seem that there's any actual quest or set-in-stone goals -- you're just controlling a woman going through life in her hometown, working and associating with people. Not the sort of thing I play, but I do see them from time to time and do wonder how widespread their appeal is -- are they pretty popular or more niche?

I think the genre has definitely found a strong following. I’ve really struggled in the last few years - very action-packed, high-stakes games are just a little much for me. I own one business and manage another and have a pretty robust social/personal life, so when I sit down to play games these days, I’m generally looking for something a little calmer, and these types really do well for me. Life Is Strange is maybe the best and most popular example, but walking simulators/narrative adventures are increasingly common, and while light on gameplay, they are definitely pushing the boundaries of storytelling in games into new directions, and opening up gaming to a wider audience.

Thanks for reading!
