This was a terrific review that did a good job of capturing the love/hate relationship many of us have shared with the game. I finally settled on the "love it" side, rather definitely, but there were times early in my experience with it that I felt as you did. Your review was written very well, with no outright errors that I could find, though I do think you might want to lose the first or (more likely) second instance of 'only' in this sentence: "Things only worsened as you advanced because you also had to occasionally cross sub-levels on the way to the next dungeon, which only further softened you up." Great stuff!

Well, there is one, "forcing you to watch your their motions".

Otherwise, never got the appeal of any Zelda game. But then again, that's just from reading or watching if I happened to, since not being also for PC meant I never was able to play one.

Good review; I actually loved this game a lot. After beating it, I'd speed-run its New Game + because the difficulty was the exact same, but you started with all the health and power you finished with, allowing you to two-hit the first couple bosses and making things pretty/really easy on the first continent.

Playing it straight through normally, my make or break (as for a lot of people, I'd guess) was Death Mountain. Nothing like a really confusing mountain maze loaded with instant death lava and tough enemies to have to meander through for an eternity (because I never could remember the exact route).

Thank you, everyone! And good catch, Cavalry. I had to reread it a few times to see "your their."

Rob:
I was able to get through Death Mountain, surprisingly, though it did contribute to my eventual burn out. Maze levels in general are awful and tiring, even the one in Monster Party which is relatively simple.

The Death Mountain/hammer run is, I feel, the game's biggest error. But I like most of the rest of it so much that I can forgive it that.
