I have only ever played the GBA version, and the cuts you described really make it a much less enjoyable Mega Man game (for me) than most others in the series. I wish they would offer the original now. There have been enough Mega Man compilations to allow for it, surely. Or, maybe they could add it to Nintendo Switch Online. That would work pretty well, I think.

One note: you wrote "minus the meme fonder cutscenes" in one spot, and I think you meant "meme fodder" there? I found another minor issue with a substituted word elsewhere, but overall this was another tight review that offered an in-depth historical perspective I imagine most readers will find very interesting. I know I enjoyed it myself!

It's funny that last year I put a comment on your review of this game and was like "this game's way better!" and then I basically gave it the same score.

This game (and the GB Mega Man Games) really need a modern release. Seeing the Battle Network and Zero collections make me hopeful that Capcom's still willing to dig into their back catalog and make this stuff available to a new audience.

Now if only Mega Man Legends could come back... :)

I have the Virtual Console releases of Mega Man & Bass (the GBA version, sadly) and the two Mega Man Xtreme games, despite still owning the cartridges. For another few days, those remain an option for people with the money and the interest. After that, there's only emulation unless Capcom decides to pick up the money that's currently resting on the table. Which maybe it will. Stranger things have happened!
