I like your comparison to fast food. It's enough to keep you going for a while and maybe even excite you at first. The aesthetics and character interactions do this, but the mechanics don't hold water for very long. I spent an afternoon with this title because it came in a bundle, but haven't been back since. No substance, just a little kick in the admittedly well presented sand.

Food metaphors really are the best!

"Too often we enjoy the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought." - John F. Kennedy on reality

"What if everything you see is more than what you see--the person next to you is a warrior and the space that appears empty is a secret door to another world? What if something appears that shouldn't? You either dismiss it, or you accept that there is much more to the world than you think. Perhaps it really is a doorway, and if you choose to go inside, you'll find many unexpected things." - Shigeru Miyamoto on secret doors to another world2

I think I'd have liked this game more if I hadn't played Megadimension Neptunia VII a year or two ago. The games are similar enough as far as the battle system and visuals go that what originally had been a really fun system transformed into a "been there, done that" thing that I enjoyed, but the same magic wasn't there to the same degree. Overall, it led to me playing a game that I didn't dislike, but had no issues with taking any and all easy ways out I could find in order to make it play more quickly.
