Hey, I saw this review cross referenced on the CRPG Addict's coverage of this game (in support of how bad this game is).

I played a few hours of Sword of Hope last year and was super disappointed. I expected Shadowgate meets Final Fantasy, but I (and a lot of other people) give too much credit to Kemco for the NES versions of the MacVenture games. It would be interesting to see this adventure-RPG hybrid revisited by a developer with more talent.

I do need to play the sequel. I remember trying and liking the first one when I was 20 or so. My brother-in-law had it. So I bought the sequel on Virtual Console for 3DS, but I haven't yet gotten around to playing it. The first one wasn't released on Virtual Console, so I would imagine that means the sequel is the better of the two.

"What if everything you see is more than what you see--the person next to you is a warrior and the space that appears empty is a secret door to another world? What if something appears that shouldn't? You either dismiss it, or you accept that there is much more to the world than you think. Perhaps it really is a doorway, and if you choose to go inside, you'll find many unexpected things." - Shigeru Miyamoto on secret doors to another world2
