Nice review. Ha, I like the conclusion, well played. Auto-boost sounds like just about the dumbest idea you could implement in a racing game.

Typo catch:

"Thankfully, stopping a boost is as simple as breaking lightly..."

Braking.

Nothing lamer than when a weak standalone effort gets stamped with the name of an established canon to squeeze sales. You might get a few more units sold, but at what cost? Pissing off the series' user base?

Topical Pickhut strikes again!

Excellent game choice. Not such an excellent game, sadly. I gave up on this one quick back in the day. Just played more Chase HQ instead.

I never played much Chase HQ. But the idea seemed so cool. Basically Outrun with guns, no? For some reason, I was into Top Gear, which was like Outrun with car maintenance between levels. It too, got dumb near the end, with some weird, futuristic iterations.

No guns; you had to chase down then ram the bad guys off the road. Still under Outrun's strict countdown. Good, clean fun.

Thanks for catching the typo! Also, glad you and EmP enjoyed reading the review. I thought on and off about doing a review for OutRun 2019, but it wasn't until a few days ago that I decided to just go for it. It's a pretty lame future racer, especially one released in 1993. Doesn't even come close to touching something like F-Zero, which came out three years prior.

Funny that Chase HQ was brought up, considering there's also a Chase HQ-inspired OutRun title called Battle OutRun for the SMS. Sega really did squeeze the IP for all its worth...

I head spaceshit noises.

Ha ha, quite the fitting game to review this year.
