Nice job, Venter. Haha, 'free' seemed like the right price to you on this one? I can't argue with that. I downloaded it for that reason, and right away I hated the never-know-who-you're-gonna-get bro 'selection.' Also, the controls felt slippery and the graphics are weird (I know it's intentional, but I don't have to like it). 8-bit Contra circa '88 continues to crush next gen homages - funny how that works.

The graphics aren't just weird, they're downright bad. Looking at the screenshots, it's hard to tell who or where the player character is.

JOSEPH VALENCIA was able to build this sig IN A CAVE…… WITH A BOX OF SCRAPS!!

Thanks for reading, both of you! I actually didn't mind the visuals. To me, they felt like a mix of Contra and Metal Slug, and they worked well enough for an indie effort. The controls, like Masters said, were quite slippery. I think that was also intentional, to help maintain a brisk pace that the level design made difficult, but sometimes things did feel quite awkward. I had been wanting to play Broforce for a long time before it came to PSN, so it's possible that the disappointment hit me harder than it otherwise would have. And the numerous bugs just made everything worse on top of that...

I found this review by searching in bing (yes, bing) for "Broforce PS4 Load Times" and this was one of the top results. I wanted to make sure it wasn't just me experiencing these issues.

Every time a level loads, about 3 seconds in the controls freeze for about 2 seconds. It hasn't been a huge issue but was devastating in one of the earlier levels. I also thought that my PS4 froze the first time I experienced a long load time. I think you're undershooting the time. In some of the later, Alienesque levels, I swear I've sat looking at a black screen for well over a minute waiting for the level to load.

I'm almost done with the game and the performance issues are unfortunate because I truly do like the gameplay and think it is really fun... when it's working. The random switching of characters keeps you on your toes; however, I would like to see a mode where you could choose a character and stick with them for as long as you wanted to.

I enjoyed your review. I'm about to jump into the final level of the campaign. Hopefully I have better luck than you did!

Thanks for reading, kallenberg1094, and for sharing your own experiences here. I never set out to NOT enjoy a game I'm playing to review, because what would be the point in that? I expected to have a lot of fun with this one, and those technical issues were a real downer. I also hope you have a better time in that last campaign than I did!
