Ah, good old MYST - the "game" everyone's mum used to like cos it had pretty pictures and stuff. Still one of gaming's most horrifically over-purchased titles. That it stands out as being bad in a genre infamous for its weak titles is telling. Nice review, though.

You're not missing much, Masters. I remember playing this on the PC in 1995 or so and it was pretty bad then. My dad seemed to enjoy it more than I did, but even he ended up printing off a walkthrough to play it, and that sucked away what little fun there was to be had.

The problem is that it was probably the first mainstream "3D" adventure game, and as such everyone lapped it up because, for the time, it looked absolutely stunning. But it was always a really bad game, even then. Its popularity came because it was given away free with just about every PC between 1994 and 1996, so everyone in the world had the chance to play it. Essentially a glorified tech demo, but now a 15-year-old one - no point in this release whatsoever. 3/10 is generous.

Thanks for the feedback gentlemen. And yeah, I've always been the generous type. I have lower standards in general for handheld games; if this mess was on the PS3 or something -- wow.
