I feel like an idiot -- I had no idea there were Sonic games on the Master System. Apparently they are, for the most part, the same as the Game Gear Sonic games (which I did play).

To be honest, the only thing I actually knew about the SMS's library before reading this review was that it has a Phantasy Star game (that I never played).

Seeing as the NES market devoured the rest by forcing companies to exclusively develop for them, it was difficult for the SMS to have many hits. Nonetheless it did have a few gems, Phantasy Star indeed being one.

Game Gear Sonic's are indeed ports of the SMS games, but the small screen somehwhat compromised the quality, with less visible viewing space.

Good review, and the score looks fair. I enjoyed this game on the SMS and the GG... but have you tried the sequel on GG? One of the worst games I've ever played.

Thanks for that comment, with regards to the sequel I have played it on the Master System, but not the GG. I always found it a bit hard, especially the gliding. I have heard the horror stories of the GG version, again from the small screen by the sounds of things.

I agree with Masters. I liked this review, and I'm going to go out on a limb and say that it's my favorite of yours. This review definitely has shown how far you've come. And the game sounds pretty cool, too.

Question: I read on some shady site that the Master System version of Sonic costs an overwhelming amount of money. Do you know anything about that being the case?

Certainly not with Sonic 1, especially when the Mark 2 models come with this built in. You should expect to pay a bit more for Sonic Chaos , but I netted this for £4 from Oxfam. Expect to spend that amount on ebay.

With regards to the actual review, I'm glad you've liked it. It was surprisingly hard to write, with far more chopping and changing.

I don't know. I didn't think there were any KILLER AP INFLATED EBAY PRICED SMS games. But maybe there are!

I used to love Commander Keen.

I found the shady site I was talking about. Apparently the US version of this game is rare, judging the information provided.

It's #18.

Wow, that's amazing. The site doesn't take into consideration all the many PC Engine holy grails... such as Sapphire, Dracula X and Darius Alpha. I remember when Alpha was going for $700... insane, considering it's a boss-only version of a so-so port of a 'solid' shooter.

Yeah, Ruder had the chance to get it for around $200 a few months ago but didn't. I think he regretted it.

I hear the most expensive PC Engine game is a math mystery adventure that regularly goes for a few thousand. Crazy.

Having played Dracula X and Sapphire, I can at least make the claim that these holy grail games are sometimes actually great titles.
