I think that the bottom line here is trust. Gamers and developers need to know that they can trust the console manufacturer to launch what they say is going to be launched. Things don't need to be "perfect" on day one, but the preparations that lead up to the launch date are as important to the console's success as the days after. It is the job of Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo to convince us, the gaming community, that the console is worth rooting for. And unaccounted hype destroys that. When we go our local game store and get the shiny box with "PS3" emblazoned on the front of it, we want to feel absolutely thrilled, without any signs of hesitation or regret. To be sure, the PS3 will succeed but it's how successful that is the question. The playing field has levelled now. Sony will need to compete and they better re-learn how. Soon.

	zigfried - September 09, 2006 (09:11 AM) Thinking back to past launches...... Xbox 360 was terrible. No one could get what they wanted. The N64 and PS2 were almost as bad. Xbox was pretty good. The system was in decent supply, and there were some nice games (Halo and DOA3 are still considered classics today). But then there's the Dreamcast. The system was amply manufactured. The games were plentiful, and there were some real gems (Soul Calibur, Sonic Adventure). Accessories were easy to find. And Sega was already promising a lot more in the future -- promises that were more than fulfilled. Why can't Sony be more like Sega? //Zig

Sony has known nothing but success when it comes to the Playstation, so they think that their new system will share the same past success its predecessors did. I can't wait for Sony to realize they fucked up!
