I love the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - I still have my Michelangelo stuffed animal from way back when - but something just dawned on me.

Are the Ninja Turtles actually ninjas? I mean, maybe highly skilled martial artists. It seems that they fight ninjas more than they are ninjas. No shurikens. No poofs of smoke. Not much stealth with their colored masks and green self. Just a lot of weapons and pizza (which I don't mind). But are they really ninjas?
