So I was browsing around Amazon today, looking for interesting deals, and I decided I wanted to check out the "reviews" for THotD 2 & 3 Return. This was a mistake:
"I picked up this turd new at a wholesale club for $10 last weekend. What a total piece of garbage and a complete waste of my hard earned money. The graphics are 1980's grade, the talking tracks are infantile and stupid, NO SAVE ability," (1 star rating)
1980s?! Jesus, you make me feel old...
"This game allows no saves so it is frustrating trying to advance. Much prefer "Overkill."" (2 star rating)
"I really really liked this game and the only downside would be the fact that when you died, you had to start over..."
"If you like old arcade games then this game would be great for you. It is fun sometimes but I get tired of playing the same board over and over because you cant save it." (3 star)
"After recently buying House of Dead Overkill- which was a lot of fun and you could save the game, we bought House of Dead 2&3. After getting quite a ways into the game and losing all my credits, found out you can't save the game. Everytime you play the game and you lose all your credits, you have to start from the very beginning. That is very frustrating if you get a long ways into the game and find out you have to start over from the beginning all the time."
Notice a pattern in the last four comments? I never would have imagine that the biggest complaint people would have with the collection is the inabilty to save. The games' aren't even that long. I bet if a save feature WAS included, the same people would likely moan that the games end too quickly. No wonder arcades became extinct.
"I paid about 32 bucks for it, and my friend and I nearly beat HOTD2 in about 15 minutes."
The first stage alone takes about 5 minutes to complete, so I'm pretty sure he's full of himself.
"I like old school games just as much as the next person, but I forgot how horrible the graphics looked; when compared to Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles."
Because comparing the graphics of old games to that of a recent game and expecting them to match is always a smart way to judge something. This reminds me of the time in a GameFAN issue that one of the reviewers stated that the graphics for Space Harrier doesn't hold a candle to Panzer Dragoon 1. What the hell?
"I thought they didn't send the game, but they sent the wrong game. I have some Sonic game for my Nintendo Wii." (5 star rating)
