Am I being too critical?
September 25, 2009

Last night, I watched the AVGN's latest video about Wayne's World, and wrote my opinion of it on another forum:

"The Wayne's World review was pretty terrible, especially since it comes off like he was phoning this one in. Showing clips from the movie would have been fine if it was done about two or three times, but showing something every five seconds just reeked of laziness, like he didn't really feel like showing himself on camera that much. He wasn't even in character that much, either, instead just talking about the game in a very bored manner. Shoot, when he would actually get "angry", it just sounded like he was out of gas. I'm not expecting him to go nuts, but yeesh, put some effort into it. It's almost like he really didn't want to do this review, but he had nothing else at the time. And considering how subdued he was throughout the review, I found the ending of him puking just completely out of place."

Quite a couple of people disagreed with me, saying that the review was completely fine. Some said the clips weren't a distraction, instead, served a purpose. Others said that it was the games' fault for not having much to poke fun at, and not the AVGN himself. I'm just wondering: Am I being too critical? Because I've noticed, that in the past few weeks, that I've been critical about specific things, and the normal response I would get from people was that I'm overreacting or not fully understanding.

Sometimes I feel that being a reviewer gives me a disadvantage when it comes to talking with other people...

He's pretty funny sometimes, but I find that the cussing and general vulgarity gets kind of tiring, which is why I don't suscribe to his channel/whatever.

The only reason I'll watch Angry Video Game Nerd is that, inevitably, there comes a moment in each one of his videos that is hilarious.

Granted, it's usually not intentional on his part, I feel, but more a product of watching just how terrible the games he plays are. Once he starts going off on his formulaic ending rant full of cursing and random shouting, I usually turn it off.

Still, there are a few videos that stand the test of time. His Ghostbusters reviews are hilarious, as are his Dick Tracy and Milon's Secret Castle reviews. Everything from around that time period was pretty great... Dragon's Quest, for instance, and Terminator... Bible Games...

But yeah, I don't like him so much as I like the subject matter.
