The XBox 360 is on it's way to my house! Along with Burnout Revenge, Ghost Recon 3 : Advanced Warfighter, and Tomb Raider Legend. (The latter is not my choice, I gave up on Lara long ago, but the woman still has a soft spot for her, I'm afraid.)

Strangest choice is GRAW, since I have long since held a dislike for stealth combat games. However, playing it at a friend's house over the weekend convinced me to give it a go. The graphics are quite simply astonishing. Putting myself into the mindset to step, look around, step, look around, lather, rinse, repeat is going to be a challenge, but I'm sure I'll be able to step up to it.

Oh, and you know that Geometry Wars : Retro Evolved will be my first download!

Tomb Raider is very, very unoriginal. Which is probably why it's so fun! The first level at least. I've got the motorbike sections to come.

Is it supposed to have the same old shitty controls?

I was a huge fan of the first Tomb Raider, I still liked 2, but have taken a bit of a battering with each succesive instalment. I even kept the faith right up to Angel of Darkness, which is the point where I swore to never trust the franchise again. However, reading reviews and watching the movies, I think I may really like this new one.

I played the originals long after they were new, and didn't like them. From the short amount of time I spent playing the other, later Tomb Raiders, I can say that this is a huge improvement. I'm not far, but I've just done the first motorcycle section and it was actually really fun. The control is really good and Lara has some cool moves.

Of course, it's basically Prince of Persia with guns. The camera even pans around each new area! But if you're going to copy, then you should copy from the best I suppose.

Interesting how you should compare it to Prince of Persia, since in my review for Prince of Persia : Sands of Time I actually state :

"At several times in the game you will be thinking ''This is so familiar.'' The reason is that you saw a lot of this in Ico, and in Tomb Raider before that."

So, would it be more correct to say that PoP is Tomb Raider with swords instead of guns? Hard to say, since the original Tomb Raider was very much a 3D Prince of Persia, just with gunplay instead of swordplay. Or at least, that's the way I perceived it at the time.

Well I guess everyone's copying everyone then. For me Sands of Time was the best 3D platformer, though, and Legends feels more like that than the original Tomb Raiders. But whatever. It's a cool game, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

I played Geometry Wars on PGR2 for 30 minutes. It gave me a headache.
