I love (not really) how people talk about how it's been years since there was a decent game, or they talk about how no one really makes any good games anymore. Yet every month, there are several new games that come out and look pretty great, and when you consider the yearly schedule... wow. We're living in a great times for a gamer. Weeks like this prove it. We're complaining about only four good games? Seriously?

who is that person whoz complaining abt only 4 games releasing this week!!!!?????? oh....right....i guess we have become so used to many games releasing each week that when only say 4 come out we start complaining......i agree its an AWESOME time to be a gamer and maybe its something we have (or maybe I) have started taking for granted.......

On the other hand, it really, really sucks to be a gamer's wallet.

the fact that we have more platforms and more people owning them means we have more games

but more games also mean that quality might be sacrificed at times.....

i would say the problem with games today is not enough originality, playing it safe with too many ports and sequels...but the quality of these sequels are still exceptionally good, if nothing special.

the quality/quantity ratio of games is no different than it was during the NES era. there's going to be a hundred shitty games, several dozen so-so games, and maybe ten really good ones per year.

i agree.....sequels have become the safe way out for many companies and now 'reboots' are gaining momentum....'Medal of Honor', Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit.....

Yeah, I'm with Jason. There's really too many games out that I'd like to try to actually try them all.

I do think, overall, I'm less impressed by the games I play but I think this is due to two main reasons:

1) I'm older. My exposure has grown. Just as anime no longer enamors me with its cliche plots and over-expository scripts, so too am I not intrigued by the majority of video game writing and characterization.

2) The pool of games has grown exponentially, meaning I have more to compare games to. It used to be that if you liked a specific genre, there were probably two or three games a year released for it. That meant two current titles for a genre a year, so there was less to choose from. Nowadays a game has to live up to much more competition to stand out and push the boundaries.
