EmP finishes second to last...

...in the Alpha Marathon.

Unless Suskie makes a surprise attack, which would be nice to see.

Finishing was an interesting, quirky goal of the sort I like to have over a year to go with the more serious ones. I remember writing my first "Y" review back on GameFAQs--it's a tough letter--to do the Alpha thing. I think it took 2 years.

EmP coming along and doing it made me wonder why I took so long, especially as I took less to write each review. It's like the four minute mile example used in so many motivational books. Once one person did it, others followed quickly.

It's good to have that formal structure even in offbeat goals, though.

And now, back to fiction writing.

Well done, good sir!

I have three more reviews to submit before I complete the Alpha Marathon. One of them, for U, is already complete. The other two are sort of half-written, and I'm not particularly enthusiastic about finishing either (i.e. I wouldn't be writing them if it wasn't for the Marathon), so whether or not I pull a "surprise attack" will depend on whether I can pull myself together and finish them before tonight is over. I can't procrastinate any longer.

It'd be cool to have you join up. But don't kill yourself--25 is darn good. If the reviews don't get written, they can maybe go on the pile for next year anyway.

Finished and submitted. Looks like you'll be finishing second to last this year!

I actually did consider saving them and thus having a head start for next year's Alpha Marathon, but I figured I actually had a pretty easy ride for the most part this year (I was able to take care of many of the trickiest letters simply by running through my N64 collection) and I figured I might as well take advantage of it. I had a goal to at least finish this year, which I will do as soon as my three reviews get approved.

Anyway, best of luck to you in 2010! I already have quite a few plans of my own, so don't think you'll be able to leisurely cruise through the next Marathon.

Well done to you as well! It looks like you cleared some big name games, and I remember a lot that you talked about not quite getting to with the review contest. I wouldn't be surprised if there are a few more. The review contest list I made has some 2010 targets for the Alpha Marathon.

Your last sentence is some big words there, but I have plans for next year--writing games down etc., too. I wouldn't be surprised if one of the three of us finishes before December.

But I think we'll all have good games to write for, not just stuff to fill a letter--well, except maybe for the tough letters--and I think all three of us have standards for our reviews. So it will be a fun competition.
