zippdementia I'm best known for my extensive work in the fields of this and that. I tend to be better at that, though I have more fun with this.

I'm an odd jobber with an even personality who isn't afraid to roll with the punches but prefers to dodge them when able.

Title: Killzone 2 pre(re)view

So far, so good. Killzone 2 will definitely find favour with FPS fans, as it has with me. It mixes the best of halo and gears of war with smooth graphics and decent level design.

It could've stood to have thrown in a bit more of Half-Life's immersion, though. I'm extremely excited to try out the multi-player, where such things as immersion won't matter.

Right now we're looking at a solid 9/10 here. The game slips up a bit on the single player campaign thus far, just failing to achieve that "I can't stop playing" line that Half Life hits, and falling more somewhere in the Resistance 1 line of "It's hard to stop playing."

You understand that Gears of War not a FPS, right?

It basically is, Mike. It plays much more like an FPS than a 3PS to be honest.

KZ2 looks really bland to me. But what do I know? I play pretentious crap. :)

Oh, it is pretty bland, as far as innovation and story goes. Killzone 2 doesn't push much boundaries, beyond graphical boundaries, but it is such a polished product that it doesn't matter that much.

And I just spent the last four hours playing online. It's very addictive and well laid out.

Killzone 2's main selling point, for me, is the level design, which might even outshine Half Life 2.

I played some of Killzone 2 and didn't like the singleplayer at all. Nice graphics but it came off to me as bland and generic. Multiplayer, on the other hand was surprisingly good. Maybe even better than Halo 3.

Way to kill it with faint praise? Better than Halo 3 multi-player? What isn't?

I used Halo 3 as an example because it is probably the most popular online console FPS. I've never been the biggest Halo fan, either; it isn't bad but I don't like how your shields can protect you from an entire clip of ammo and not from one or two melee swpies.

Outside of that it's great.

Killzone's multiplayer is really cool. Gunplay is quick enough that even experienced players can be taken down by newbies. To balance this out, the more you play, the more weapons and abilities you have access to. And the addition of squads, which act like chat rooms in terms of communication and moving spawn points in terms of gameplay, is really interesting.
