Shadow of the Collosi movie?
June 10, 2009

It was reported that Sony Pictures would adapt Shadow of the Colossus into a film. Kevin Misher, producer of The Scorpion King, The Interpreter and the upcoming Dune film, is negotiating to produce. The script is being written by Justin Marks, who wrote Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li.

With those movie records, this movie will be nothing short of a disaster. It makes me happy in a sadistic sort of way.

Wait wait wait...

There's ANOTHER Dune film?

Yeah, some guy is giving another stab at the franchise. Hey, it can't possibly be worse than Lynch's version.

Well yeah, but the miniseries is apretty tough act to follow. It also demonstrated rather well that Dune is a hard story to tell without going four and a half hours longer than any theatre audience is willing to sit.

I've known about it for a while, but Shadow of the Colossus still strikes me as an incredibly odd choice for a movie adaptation. Not quite on the level of Tetris, but still.

I mean... the only way you could do it justice would be to have it as minimalistic as the game was. I just fear they'll introduce a rebel faction that works as a group to take down giant monsters for the good of humanity.

Ugh.

If I was forced to write a script for SotC, I would have to go classic fantasy adventure/action with it. Something along the lines of a mix between Never Ending Story and Legend, with a little Last Unicorn tossed in for good measure. I'd probably be forced to give him another companion in the style of Ladyhawk, just because a film is based around character interaction.

And right there... you have the reason why this can never be a film.
