Title: Odin Sphere (thanks to Sashanan)
Posted: April 29, 2009 (05:31 PM)
Sashanan's comment on my blog pushed me to finally finish this one. It's another long rule breaker (2000 words, unheard of for me!), but I'm pretty happy with it.
I would love some feedback, though. I'm trying out some new things, and am interested to see the response.

Title: New review!
Posted: April 28, 2009 (11:02 AM)
My latest child.
I broke all my own rules on this one. I did huge amounts of story coverage, the review nears 2000 words... the list goes on.
But sometimes you have to break your own rules to make them better. Never let it be said that I'm a stickler for the law.

Well, i finally went and picked up bioshock.
I have to say, I love the plasmid system, the atmopshere is superb, and the presentation is tops...
... but I also have to say, the lack of any penalty for dying puts a HUGE kink in the works for me. I mean, my first encounter with a Big Daddy was scary. I was down on the ground, unable to control my character, and this THING walks up and I just prayed to god it kept going.
And when I first encountered one in combat, I was damn near shitting myself. But not for long. Whack whack... I was dead.
And then... POOF! There I am again! Why waste ammo? I'll take em on with my wrench! BECAUSE I CAN. It won't matter.
It really breaks the whole flow and immersion of the game for me. Nothing is frightening, because the worst that can happen is I have to walk a few extra feet.
I'm sorry, but whoever made that decision was a moron. It's pretty damn near ruined the whole beautiful product for me.
Title: Back in the saddle, again...
Posted: April 27, 2009 (03:22 PM)
Expect to see more Zipp reviews this week. First up will be Archmage, as soon as someone adds the game to the database.
But I'm also gonna be doing a ton of catching up. I've got Odin's Sphere, FF Tactics... and some others...
Didja miss me?
EDIT: Which reminds me... Jason said he doesn't have time to update the database... can someone help me out so I can post my review?

Title: Had some trouble with my latest review
Posted: April 16, 2009 (01:43 AM)
Within the next couple of days you should all see my review for Tokyo Beat Down.
This was a really tough one for me to review, surprisingly so. I think part of it has to do with the fact that I've been a little sick, but also because it was a game I really WANTED to enjoy, which made me fight myself the whole time I was trying to bash it.
My first submission of it was embarrassingly bad and thankfully Jason was honest enough to tell me, however lightly, that this was the case.
My second rewrite I'm much happier with. In fact, I really like it. Hopefully Jason will, too, and I can share it with you good folk.

Title: More nudity!
Posted: April 09, 2009 (02:21 AM)
My latest gives me a chance to rant about kids movies:
By the way, most of you know, but I got banned for a short time for posting and discussing male nudity! Readers and my editors didn't mind the giant vagina, but they got REALLY offended when I wrote about a man's penis getting whacked.
The Examiner quickly reinstated me and my articles when I showed them that I've become the third most read NW Examiner in only a month of writing. That's thanks to everyone who clicks on my links and shares them, so thank you!
Title: Ha ha ha, so my article got taken down...
Posted: April 04, 2009 (07:09 PM)
... The Examiner considered my latest article to be lewd ^_^
Just wait. I'll have it back up in a few days.

This week's film is a very good one. Everyone should read the article and agree with me.
Title: Resident Evil 5
Posted: March 25, 2009 (03:54 PM)
Soon enough, my review of the game will appear in a glorious ray of light to the delight of gamers everywhere.
Or more likely, to grumpiness and fan-booing.
Which is silly, because I gave the game an 8. And that was against my better judgement.
For me, the game plays more like a 6 or 7, decent, but nothing spectacular. However, I always take pains with these big titles to try and see the bigger picture and give the game a score which I feel will represent MOST people's feelings. Thus, the 8.
Not much to add right now, but I'd be happy to get into a discussion of my complaints of the game once the review is officially up.
Title: WHAT IS THIS SONG?!
Posted: March 24, 2009 (03:13 PM)
It used to play on the radio quite a bit.
The lyrics I remember went something like:
I ain't got time
to get up again
you're never gonna get me down
Dancing the night away
Just dancing the night away..."
Anyone know what I'm talking about? Help a lost soul!
Title: Battlecruiser 3000 A.D.

After petitioning the forums to help me locate (or create) a review for this game, I did manage to find this.
It's an extensive faq I found buried in the gamefaqs archives that, aside from giving a main mission walkthrough and some really interesting history on the game development, spends fifty pages detailing the use of BASIC CONTROLS. That such a thing even exists seems to be a testament to the terribleness of this "universe simulator."
Anyway, if you want an interesting read, give it a click. The ambition is staggering, and the execution laughably bad. Best of all are the comments from fans and from Derek Smart himself that are embedded in the faq, commenting on why this-and-that doesn't work right or a way around the broken mechanics. Derek Smart in particular is hilarious for his smug acceptance of the brokenness of his controls, AI, game in general, etc... and his utter satisfaction with all that.
Title: Back alley entrance?

Just watched the episode closure for the first time and it confirms my belief that, at least up through season 7, X-files WAS one of the better shows ever made.
It's not so much the scripts or story as it is the professionalism with which they were handled. And of course, the amazing abilities of the actors.
Yes, I am an X-files fan, though when it first aired, I only made it up to the movie. After the first film, I didn't watch an x-files episode for nearly ten years. Then I rented them all on netflix and am still making my way through.
But god, after Closure, it's gonna be tough. That feels like such a natural ending to everything.

People either consider the image of a naked woman ripping a tank apart to be over-kill or artistically wonderful. Can you guess which movie this is?
