Title: EmP, you should have tourneys like this more often
Posted: June 19, 2008 (02:46 PM)
I beat my game in five days... because it's all I did. RPGs are only about as addictive as crack.
But as to the reviewing part, I'm finding myself a lot more excited than usual. And it's all because I have to do research to write the intro.
That's right. Research.
XD Damn I feel old (and I'm only 18!). But God I love history. And I think college really rubbed off on me...
Hope the effect doesn't wear off. Usually these things last a few minutes then I get bored/overwhelmed again. It's why I both love and hate writing research papers.
I just hope I can write the thing awesome. The more mechanical things will be more difficult... and that's where I'll start worrying about quality.
Oh, well. One step at a time, I suppose.
Thanks, EmP. I mean it.

This is to members who have played The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
So my dad's been playing this game for ages... but he's stuck. He's at this part where he has to enter this "Dreamworld" or whatever. He has no weapons or armor or anything and he has to battle two minotaurs or something. He says there are weapons and armor somewhere on the field, but he can't find them. Any suggestions? I have no idea. I'm going to check Gamefaqs later myself, but I don't know what he's really talking about because I haven't played the game yet.
...or you all can just discuss the game among yourselves, I suppose. >_>
Title: Well, I did it again, Felix
Posted: May 31, 2008 (08:55 PM)
Haha. Five in the month of May. I told you I'd do it. And to prove it, here they are:
One of the review's I had drafted over Spring Break... Glad I got it done, even if it's not great.
The final review I had drafted over Spring Break. I felt better about this after it placed second in RotW. Thanks to Felix for the advice with this one.
Fire 'N Ice
The second of three games as part of Felix's and my contest.
Sam & Max: Abe Lincoln Must Die
Finally broke EmP's monopoly on the series. Tried to write this better than his, but don't think I did. It's good enough, though, I suppose, and it was a really hard one to write, though, so I'm content enough with it. I admire his ability to keep plugging reviews for this series, though, without sounding too samey or just running flat. I know I couldn't do it.
Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring
Spent the last two days working on this to meet the deadline. Not too sure how I feel about this. Intro and conclusion feel dodgy to me; I'm especially woried about accuracy in the intro. But the rest seems OK. I did worry about being too vague, though. I'm not sure how well people unfamiliar with the books/movies will be able to follow it, though I thought I explained everything at least enough for them to get the gist of it. I dunno, though.
Now please - no more challenges like this for a little while. I need a break... >_> Plus I worry doing things like this effect quality. I sure hope not, though.
Title: Bring on the summer
Posted: May 06, 2008 (10:17 PM)
Which officially starts at noon for me tomorrow. Hurray for no more school!
But.. there is a downside.
I'm going home, which means I won't have ready internet access. So to those I talk to regularly but haven't told, I won't be on AIM at all over the summer, I doubt. It also means I won't be adding any new content except reviews over summer, too, probably.
Good news is I intend to write a lot of reviews - and I mean a lot. Felix's newest challenge would be enough normally, but... even if I do match that, I'll still have two whole months. So I'm expecting to get a lot done.
I'll still be around here, just not as much. Might even blog if I feel like it. So... to everyone on this site, I say... I'll miss you all. Every last one of you. <3
I'll be more active again come fall!
E: Oh, yeah. Got the game, too, pup. Thanks again for that. Should be fun.
E2: Oh, I also changed my mind about the Genesis. Downloaded the emulator and a ROM a few days ago.. so looking for recs. Not sure I'll get to download any of your suggestions or even play them over the summer with everything else I need to do, but... we'll see.
Title: I win, Felix.
Posted: April 30, 2008 (06:50 PM)
I have mastered your challange.
Ten total reviews by May and you got them. Only listing the last five because EmP's challange encompassed the first five. Can't remember if you challenged me before or after RE4, either.
...I love pushing deadlines. Haha. No I don't. -_-;
Anway, here are the five:
Resident Evil 4
This last one'll likely get more editing... still not sure about the last half of it. Don't like it as much as most of my others. I have a bitch of a time with strategy games (hell, RPGs in general, really) for some reason. Ah, well; hope it's good enough.
Title: Whoa... I'm soooo wasted....
Posted: April 29, 2008 (06:40 PM)
....Not. I really don't like alcohol.
If I'm drunk on anything, it's sugar. Our dorm had this "mocktail" party where they made fake drinks like pina colata out of juice, milk and ice cream. It was pretty tasty. I only had two, though. Didn't feel like staying long.
My favorite was the pina colata. The other one I had was this thing called a Summer Rain, which was like grapefruit juice and sherbert ice cream or something. It was OK.
No, Felix - they didn't have any fake Harp and Guiness mixtures.
Haha. I had toyed with the idea of pretending to be drunk, but... changed my mind because it was stupid.
Title: For you, disco1960
Posted: April 19, 2008 (05:24 AM)
Because of your excitement for the series, I decided to review Animorphs for the Gameboy Color. I regret to inform you that while the series is great, this game... not so much. I'm hoping the games on the other consoles are much better.
This is also one of 3 reviews I had written over spring break. It's completely rewritten from the original draft. I'm hoping it's much better than the original draft, too. I sure felt it was; otherwise I wouldn't have been so bold and released it without editing.
Granted, I know there are still problems with it. I feel like some of my transitions are ineffective and... bad. I also feel that I get too explainy in some parts without giving any examples. Perhaps I'm not even explainy enough.
Either way, though, I'm much happier with this than the other draft I had. I thought it turned out decently for a review that was written without much emotional inspiration. I think it was one of those "once it got started, it couldn't stop" type things. Thanks Felix for helping me with that. I hope this version's a better model of what you pointed out to me.
Normally I don't talk about my reviews like this, and this willl probably be one of the last times I do, maybe (unless I feel like jumping on the Year in Review bandwagon come December/January).
Anyway, it's 6 in the morning. On a Saturday. Even EmP's not on yet (and it's noon there!). >_> I'm going to try sleeping again. Don't know why I woke up so early. Maybe I was anxious about this.
Title: Concerning ROMs....
Posted: March 19, 2008 (09:36 PM)
OK. Felix was nice enough to recommend a few easy NES ROMs to download so I could write a review for this tourney. They included Bubble Bobble, Parasol Stars, and Rainbow Islands. I've been leading towards RI.
However, searching the 'net for this game, I discovered something...
That there are two "versions" of the game. There's an old version and a new version, the new one being at least 400kb more. I'm not sure which one to download because I don't know what the difference between the two is. And if there's a huge difference, that could determine how I rate the game.
Also, feel free to recommend more ROMs - I might want to check more out later after this thing.
Posted: March 13, 2008 (11:20 AM)
I am uncharacteristically happy today. I think it's a combination of things.
For starters, it's a really, really nice day out, which always makes me feel good. I hate winter because it's all depressing and cold... and stuff. I can't wait for spring and summer...
It could also be that I only got three hours of sleep last night, thus making me super hyper-giddy. >.>
Or it could be that my placement in the tourney is hitting me for real or something. That sort of thing tends to get obscured when it's late and you're tired... Suffice to say, I am extremely satisfied right now. It's good to know that I'm not a failure or hopeless cause and that I actually can achieve something decent. Being stuck on the bottom all the time really gets depressing after a while.
Also, the fact that my American history teacher cancelled the paper for the semester is nice. Although the only sticker there is that my papers are really the only thing I have confidence in most cases during these classes. I just never have faith in my tests for some reason, even (especially) the written ones. It's really strange, but I don't know why it's like that. Still, I'm glad for this break because God damn I have trouble writing papers in a timely manner. I mean, jeez, I'll be doing it a day or two before the thing's due - that's not healthy. >.>
It's also really, really nice out. I wish I could smell the flowers, but there aren't any yet. >.>; (<-- P.S. This'll probably be the most girly thing you ever hear me say. Ever.)
It's just a really good day, I guess. Strange the difference a few days can make.
Title: Games I want/should review or have reviewed (Also includes my list for EmP's Marathon Challenge)
Posted: January 29, 2008 (04:46 PM)
...or lack of list, as it's very incomplete right now for reasons I explain later.
Suggestions are welcome. Sorry if this gets a bit long and long-winded; I tend to over-explain myself sometimes.
E: XD I love how this list gets longer instead of shorter.
Games I want to review either for kicks or because someone recommended it:
Game Boy Color:
Pokemon Gold/Silver (whichever one I feel like)
Game Boy Advance:
Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire (whichever I feel like)
Pokemon Fire Red/Leaf Green (whichever I feel like)
(Note: Yes, I'm almost as big a Pokemon game fan as VM is).
Dragon Warrior III
Age of Empires III
Age of Mythology
Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Heroes of Might and Magic II
Heroes of Might and Magic III
Heroes of Might and Magic IV
Nancy Drew: Mystery at Waverly Academy
Sam & Max 201: Ice Station Santa
Tales of Monkey Island Episode 1: Launch of the Screeching Narwhal
Castlevania: Symphony of Night (wish we still had ours)
Final Fantasy Origins
Final Fantasy VII (wish the copy we borrowed weren't scratched)
Lost World: Jurassic Park
Spyro the Dragon
Spyro: Year of the Dragon
Yu-Gi-Oh: Forbidden Memories (We only ever managed to borrow or rent this... can't find a copy of it anywhere anymore)
Final Fantasy X
Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
Lord of the Rings: Return of the King
Medal of Honor: Frontline (vanished)
Medal of Honor: Rising Sun
Medal of Honor: European Assault (also vanished...)
Metal Gear Solid 3
Nightfire (>.> This is the James Bond one, right? Yes.)
Primal (was a borrowed copy... plus it's almost unbeatable without the guidebook)
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time (also a borrowed copy... don't have it anymore
Ratchet and Clank (same as Prince of Persia)
Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly (Another borrowed copy we don't have anymore)
Yu-Gi-Oh: Duelists of the Roses (lol fun game with weird historical elements. Wish I actually owned it, though)
Note: All of the above systems except for PC and NES are inaccessible as of right now, so I might not be generating reviews from them for a while unless it's for a game I recently played (i.e. RE4). Suggestions for other systems and games for the listed systems would be appreciated. Also, I have not included games in that list I've not played before (I don't think); I just may not have access to them right now, as some of the parenthetical notations indicate.
Now to make a list for the Alphabet tourney, I guess. Some of these games will be repeated from above. Actually, all the letters I have available from above will be listed. Alternative suggestions would also be appreciated, so as to vary my list, I guess. I've not included games in this list I would have to review from memory of over three months or so ago (with the exception of a few that can be reviewed thusly). I've also not listed games that've been recommended but I've not played before so as to leave open for more suggestions, nor games that I can no longer play because I don't have access to the system or I don't have the game anymore or they were borrowed.
Edit: The games already added in this list are subject to change... such has happened with A.
#: 3D Battles of World Runner
A: Ai Sensei no Oshiete: Watashi no Hoshi
B: Bad Dudes
D: Digimon World
E: Earthworm Jim
F: Fire 'N Ice
G: The Getaway
H: .hack//G.U. Vol.1: Rebirth
I: Incredible Crash Test Dummies
J: Just Breed
K: Kingdom Hearts
L: Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring
M: Metal Gear Solid
P: Pokemon Gold/Silver/Ruby/Sapphire/Fire Red/Leaf Green (haven't decided yet)
R: Resident Evil 4
S: Sam & Max: Abe Lincoln Must Die
T: Twinkle Tale
V: Virtua Fighter CG Portrait Series Vol. 9: Kage Maru
W: Worms Armageddon
X: X-Men: Mutant Academy
Title: OMGOMOMG This is so AWESOME!
Posted: January 17, 2008 (02:21 PM)
I just downloaded a NES emulator and a ROM that I've always been wanting to play for a while... And it totally WORKS! I've never emulated anything before, so if I'm making a big deal out of nothing, forgive me, but I really do miss the old NES... plus this gives me something to do when I'm bored at school... an I can get better screenshots from this instead of having to look online.
I've just opened so many doors with this, it's amazing! I can actually review my favorite Nintendo (and maybe other platforms...) games!
Anyway, I just hope I can figure out how to save and stuff... I just opened the ROM for like a few seconds, so maybe I'm getting too excited a bit early, but whatever.
Oh, and another thing... These programs are safe, right? Like they won't try to hide viruses in them or anything? I wouldn't think so, but I don't know enough about the internet to be safe on the matter. The site I got it from was specifically an emulation site, though - had a forum and everything - so maybe there's no worry there.
Title: I have met your challenge, EmP.
Posted: December 29, 2007 (01:12 PM)
You said five by the end of the year, well here you are! ^_^
Can't say it's any good, though. Hope it's better than my AoE one... Any feedback (from anybody) would be greatly appreciated.
It's had two edits - the one I submitted is the final revision. The original and first draft can be found here. I'm not sure what version is better... I'm thinking the submitted copy, but I'm not sure.
I tried to make this game sound different than the other ones.... Not sure how I did, though.
Also have an issue when making examples in this review. I know I probably shouldn't use the "For example xxx" each time, but I just couldn't think of a way to integrate the example into the review any better...
Anyway, any feedback on this would be greatly appreciated.
Title: Mm... Deadlines... o.O
Posted: December 16, 2007 (11:52 PM)
Wow. I didn't realize how fast the deadline for the Alphas was coming up... I might be more than a little screwed... or not... We'll have to wait and see, I guess.
The main issue is my focus. I'm not sure where I want to take the review. Age of Empires II: The Conquerors, being the expansion of the RTS Age of Empires II: Age of Kings, has a lot of new features that are worth noting, but since I haven't reviewed AoE II, I'll need to cover the basics for the game in the review as well.
And yes, I'm sure some of you would say "Why not just review AoE II?" Well, the thing is, I've been playing the expansion since it came out. I've only played the original AoE II for about a year maybe, if that, and that was ages ago. I don't remember enough about what the game was like before the expansion to write a decent review on it.
However, there is both good news and bad news in this department... I'm going to my dad's Tuesday - the only place I can play PC videogames anymore - so I'll be able to play the game some before actually writing the review...
The bad news... he doesn't have great internet service. Nor does he have Microsoft Word on the computer I'll be playing the game on... and I'm not sure if the other computer has it, either (Note to self: use Wordpad). Either way, I'm not sure how much time I'll have to write the review... and even if I did get it finished, I'll be crunched for editing... I'd have to finish it at least a day or two in advance to get decent revision done... Hm... Decisions decisions...
The other good news is tomorro's my last final. >.> Yay! I hope I don't fail... I certainly can't seem to focus well enough to study.
And well, I guess everyone else here taking finals has them a lot worse off than me, so... Well, hope the rest of you have had good luck with those. I'm sure you need it more than I do.
Title: Nope - can't do it.
Posted: December 10, 2007 (08:29 PM)
Only half an hour till the ratings contest is over and I still need 35 more games. >.> I just haven't played the massive amount of old-school stuff that everyone else has, and now I'm out of games. Oh, well, though - I tried.
Meh. Not sure if that was worth a blog post or not, but whatever.
Anyway, I've got this paper to write... x.x It's really annoying. I hate it. I hate writing research papers... not for the concept or challenge in general, but or the insane amount of time it takes to actually get the research... then the more insane amount of time it takes to look through the research... then the even more insane amount of time it takes to figure out what research items to put in the paper... Writing the paper itself isn't that bad... it's just... ugh... the research. x.x It's due Thursday. I have a final tomorrow... and a final Thursday... that I'm both woefully unprepared for.
...I need to stop subbing cover art and looking at blogs for just two hours... o.o God help me. >.>
I'm done ranting now.
Title: Gah! I feel stupid....
Posted: November 16, 2007 (11:20 PM)
I just subbed like a shit load of screens and things... and a lot of them got rejected/deleted because I'm a moron.
Usually I notice the watermark when I'm copying pictures... I even look for the damn thing just so I don't make the mistake... but I guess the last four pics I subbed had one - I only realized it when they were rejected. Can't believe I missed that... ugh.
I guess menu/opening screenshots aren't favored too much either... That's ok, though; I won't make that mistake again (I hope).
...then I accidentally subbed an LotR cover art in the screenshots category...What a ditsy move on my part.
Not too sure why the other latter two cover arts were rejected, though... Upon looking at them, again, though, I think its because the resizing made them really pixelly. >.< Didn't notice that until now, either... Ugh.
I was really hoping I'd stop making mistakes like this... or at least that I'd learn to submit in the day time when I'm actually more attentive... Oh, well, I guess.
I'm sorry, guys! >.< Hope you don't revoke my ability to sub screens/cover art or something... Oi. I'm so newbish sometimes...
Title: Meh... May as well talk about this here, too... >_>
Posted: November 15, 2007 (01:33 AM)
Looks like I miraculously placed third in this weeks RotW... With how I did in the tourney, this was the last thing I expected. Thanks guys!
...I also got a lot more screenshots and cover art and cheats than last time I posted in this... but I'm too lazy to link it all now.
On an unrelated note, it's almost 2:30, I got my paper done before 1:00 a.m. for once and I'm going to bed. >_> I'll post here next time I have something to
Title: Weee! Assload of screens; assload of cheats .....and some cover art
Posted: October 21, 2007 (10:18 PM)
3 Xena (GBC) Couldn't find any usable screens of the PS version... Sucks because there are some really good ones. Might have to break out the digital camera when I go home... (if Mom lets me >.>)
4 Space Jam
5 Jurassic Park
Currently placed 33 on the board with no chance of catching EmP let alone honestgamer. >.> Worth a shot, though! =D
2 Space Jam LoL.
3 Xena (PS)
10 - count'em ten Jurassic Park Yes; there's a lot of cheats for this game. Part of me thinks it could fit in an arcade setting just based on how it's played, but I don't think I saw that selected anywhere either here or the web.
Currently placed 34 on the board... not much hope of taking the lead (again) but that's fine. Lol. I should've been more active sooner.
Xena GBC, Jurassic Park, Space Jam, Darkstone, and the two Medievil games for PS. Not going to bother linking here because it's kind of pointless. >.> Though I am placed 27 on the board now, quite high considering it's only 6 submissions. Also, the fact that the great God that is known as EmP doesn't have at least a 1000 of these makes the goal seem more achievable, even though it's not. >.>
I suppose in the grand scheme of things, this isn't much to brag about, but whatever. I probably won't make another post like this again anyway (took too long. >.<) Still, pretty good for just 2 days of material, right? Right? o.o >.>
Anyway, thanks EmP for helping me with all this. I'll get to that review, I swear! >.>
Title: New fanfic!
Posted: October 15, 2007 (10:30 AM)
OK; I know I should've updated this a while ago, but eh.... I didn't know how to nor did I know what to put in here. Whatever.
Anyway, I'm kind of proud of this. I'm thinking of turning it into a review some time down the line. I'm definitely planning on putting new "chapters" in - if you can do that here... I dunno.
Anyway, hope you like it.
