I hope that all of you enjoy your vacations, celebrations, Easter egg hunts and whatnot. I, meanwhile, will put myself into seclusion and write a few reviews.
Title: So, it's finally out.

I don't have a Wii (am I the only poor soul on the planet who doesn't?), and so I am devastated that I cannot play the probably-glorious game that is Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Darn it.
Title: It's March!
Posted: March 03, 2008 (03:31 PM)
Besides the fact that this month is the one-year anniversary of my blog's existence, the weather is finally warm.
Save the one hundred Demon Hunter fanboys wielding chainsaws that are gathered in a mob outside my window, I am content. (Check my last post, and you'll see why they're out for my blood.)
Title: Prong's original or Demon Hunter's cover? Read on...
Posted: February 21, 2008 (03:12 PM)
Well, hello again, everyone! I recently discovered something very interesting about Demon Hunter's song "Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck", which I really enjoy: it was actually a cover song. The original was written by the metal band Prong. In case you don't know what in the heck I'm talking about, the two versions of the song are embedded below (first Prong's, then Demon Hunter's).
There, now that you've heard them, we're now all on the same page, right? Good. I will now continue.
Anyway, ever since the cover came out, there has been lots of arguing and bloodletting (on YouTube, that is) over rabid fanboys of both bands. Actually, being a DH fanboy myself, I'm more inclined to support The Blessed Resistance, or whatever the heck that is. But after listening to the original, I conclude that both versions are well-performed, awesome songs. However, since I feel like it, I've decided to do in-depth analyses (that's how you spell it, right?) of each song and give you the results, so as to determine which is actually better: the rocking metal of Prong or the screaming grittiness of Demon Hunter. And here they are. My analyses, I mean.
Prong: The lead singer's voice, while rather crooning, manages to pull off some interesting singing. It sounds good, and it fits with the lyrics.
Demon Hunter: The growling and screaming is kinda cool on other songs, but I don't think it really fits this particular one.
Prong: The guitar on this version is excellent, and not cleaned up or edited in any way. That actually improves it, making it sound raw and unplugged (and thus hardcore).
Demon Hunter: The guitar is well played, but the editing, while making it sound clearer, sort of bogs it down. Plus, I don't like the key they put the song in quite as well as the original's.
Prong: I like the fact that, in both versions, the bass is playing the same series of notes over and over. Under normal circumstances, this would be bad, but it's actually pretty cool-sounding.
Demon Hunter: I'm gonna give DH the edge on this one. It just sounds more... hardcore.
Advantage: Demon Hunter
Prong: I'm not a real authority on drums, but the rhythm is pretty good. It's also rather straightforward, however, which I don't like as much.
Demon Hunter: Now THIS is some sweet drumming. I think it complements the bass nicely.
Advantage: Demon Hunter
ALBUM RATING (by allmusic.com)
Prong: 4.5 stars
Demon Hunter: Ditto
OVERALL WINNER: NOBODY!
Well, look at that. Demon Hunter actually managed to produce a cover pretty much equal in awesomeness to Prong's original. You know what that tells you (besides the fact that I'm far too afraid to pick a favorite, for fear of being torn to shreds by fanboys on both sides)? You've gotta download both these songs, now, now, now! I know I did.
(EDIT: Well, crap, now they're both going to kill me for not picking their band's song..)
So, which one's YOUR favorite?

Title: Chartreuse Alert: Have You Seen These HG Contributors?
Posted: January 28, 2008 (03:38 PM)
***NOTE: This was originally a forum post, but I figured that it would get more exposure as a blog post.***
It has come to my attention that several users of the HG community have been inactive for a while. Though they're probably on vacation in the Bahamas or wherever, or maybe just doing something better with their time, they've apparently been doing whatever for a while now. For this reason, I have issued a Chartreuse Alert for several HG users. If you have seen any of the users mentioned, or wish to contribute to this effort, reply to this blog post.

What Might Have Happened?: Prodigy's last message to HG was, and I quote, "Eww school." Putting two and two together, I conclude that this "school" may actually be a medication-testing facility. He was obviously trying to send us a message, but had to type it in code so as to avoid being found. And what of the "eww" part? If my theory about the medication-testing facility is correct, his immune system may have been reacting negatively to a drug in his system. In fact, he could be mutating into something rather like the angry, bald-man zombies in I Am Legend even as we speak! CAUTION IS ADVISED.

Note: OK, maybe his Christmas post is a little recent, but I'm putting him up here only because he, um, had been absent for over a year, maybe.
What Might Have Happened?: Lasty's last post encouraged the readers to go see Alien vs. Predator: Requiem. Hmm... maybe he got eaten by one of them! Or... shudder... maybe he's the guy in the Predator suit! Now that would be creepy. On a side note, he mentioned in his previous post that he hated Christmas, so I'm going to go out on a limb and say that maybe Santa Claus paid Rudolph to go knock off our comics-obsessed friend Lasthero. CAUTION IS ADVISED.

What Might Have Happened?: At last count, Drag’s posted approximately one post. In this one, he detailed the controversy surrounding Jeff Gerstmann’s Twilight Princess review (Gerstmann gave it an 8.8/10 and he got fired). Maybe the TP fanboys swarmed his house and all simultaneously hit him with their Wiimotes. You never know. Still, CAUTION IS ADVISED.

What Might Have Happened?: After an absence, Beverage returned from wherever to tell us about his new review. I really don’t have any conspiracy theories on this one. Even so, CAUTION IS-- ah, forget it.
These are just four HG people who have shown major inactivity. With your help, we can find all these people and clear up the mystery. Again, if you want to add anybody to the Chartreuse Alert list, please reply to this post, stating their username, the exact date of their last blog post, and any theories as to what might’ve happened. Also, don’t be a hero, OK, people? I don’t want any of you guys to show up on this list.

They're calling the next James Bond movie Quantum of Solace.
I think I like "Bond 22" better.

Title: New Fanfic Series!
Posted: January 21, 2008 (06:31 AM)
I just submitted my first real attempt at comedic fan fiction. If Lasthero or whoever likes it, it'll be up pretty shortly.
Anyway, it's for Mega Man II. Sigma (from Mega Man X, but that's OK) decides to stop wasting all those tough-to-build Reploid Mavericks on X and try something new. Using a Teleportatron (a beefed-up teleporter that travels through time), he brings the eight classic MM2 Robot Masters to the future. However, this does not prove to be the brightest of decisions, and comedic hilarity ensues. If you want more, you'll have to check out Chapter I, which is being looked over right now. Since Chapter II is also done, I'll probably submit that when the first one is up.
Oh, and don't be shy; post a reply and tell me what you think of it!

What's with the ads in blogs now?
EDIT: Whoa, when I posted that, like, ten seconds ago, the ad DISAPPEARED. And the mystery progresses.

Mega Man: The Power Battle is fun. I'm glad that it's on the MMAC, especially since I always had to go down to my local reccenter and wait in line for forever just to play it.

So I'm watching Dick Clark's on New Year's Eve, right? Well, I see this TV preview with this idle neighborhood getting crushed by this giant tornado. There's loads of death, destruction, and all that crap. Well, then I figure out that it's an ad for Desperate Friggin' Housewives.
What is the world coming to?
