Sponsor Site

Thank you for your interest in sponsoring the HonestGamers site. Your sponsorship will allow us to provide additional coverage for our growing audience, while ensuring your brand or service gains additional visibility among a valuable demographic. Pricing is affordable and depending on availability, you could be started within 24 hours.

The Demographic

HonestGamers reaches an audience of mature gamers. In recent years, the "gamer" label has become almost meaningless as a descriptor, since it can refer to anyone from the 2-year-old sitting on Dad's lap and just barely holding a controller, up to and beyond the 90-year-old grandmother playing a match-3 puzzle game on her phone. So, who reads our site? Members of our audience frequently:

  • Reside in the United States (45%), Canada (18%) or the UK (7%)
  • Visit on a smartphone (51%) or tablet (9%)
  • Are predominantly male
  • Are primarily 25-38 years old
We do not currently monitor exact audience breakdown by gender or age, but our regular users who volunteer such information fall within those age breakdowns. Volunteer staff tend to be in their mid to late 30s or early 40s. Many who frequent and support the site are successful professionals who write about games as a hobby, between maintaining careers and raising families of future gamers. Those who read our content are not typically the sort to buy each other Lexus vehicles with big red bows around the holidays, but they do okay.

The Content

HonestGamers features four types of content:

  • video game reviews
  • video game news
  • video game guides
  • related community content (such as blog posts and forums)
We also host supplementary content, including screenshot galleries and charts. We work to produce content that is informative and accessible, and written at a professional level. Our contributors have freelanced for the leading sites in the sector, including IGN, GameSpot, GamesRadar, Polygon and others. Our community also breeds talent, and some of our past contributors have gone on to staff positions at leading game sites around the world, or have subsequently worked in public relations.

For our core content (excluding blog posts), we focus exclusively on games while ignoring topics favored by some of our competition, such as celebrity gossip and movie reviews. This focus allows us to dive deeper into industry coverage that is less commonly offered elsewhere but which is still of interest to the gamer demographic. We also encourage and reward reader contributions, which allows our community to remain intimate and engaged.

The Traffic

HonestGamers site traffic is not substantial, but until now, neither has been its funding. Despite operating for less than $80 per month, which just barely covers hosting and related costs, the site has built a monthly audience that dwarfs the audience maintained by many sites restricted to a similar budget. The figures for site traffic in April of 2019 are as follows:

  • 12,743 unique users
  • 17,833 sessions
  • 40,614 page views
  • 76.81% bounce rate
Traffic is trending upward from month to month, even without the anticipated boost from the devoted content production your sponsorship dollars will enable.

The Cost

Site sponsorship is currently available for $1,500 per month, with a six-month minimum. For 10 to 12 months, the monthly cost would be $1400. Payment is required up front, to pay one dedicated team member to produce as much quality content for the site as is possible within the applicable period. Your sponsorship qualifies you for the following benefits:

  • Your 728x90 banner ad displays at the top and bottom of most* pages on the site
  • 80+ news articles will be produced each month
  • 2 sponsored news articles per month will be written about a game of your choosing (optional)**
In exchange for your sponsorship, you will be the exclusive advertiser featured on the site, with the exception of sponsored guides that are offered separately. Your banners will appear at the top of most pages, barring any AdBlocker activity. We can also host your ad banners on our space. Dedicated audiences who are signed into free accounts do not see ads, but also constitute less than 15% of the traffic the site receives in a typical month.

* User-created blogs feature only an ad at the bottom of each page.
** Optional sponsored news articles, if desired, will be clearly marked as sponsored content.

Final Notes

The costs outlined above may seem substantial at a glance, but they represent a significant opportunity for the right sponsor. We hope you are that sponsor.

Creating and maintaining a web site to reach this particular demographic is a costly, time-consuming endeavor. By sponsoring content on the existing HonestGamers site, you will secure quality exposure at a cost of less than $15 per high-quality article produced. Because the content adds long-lasting value so we can ensure we're able to survive and thrive in years to follow, it is in our best interests to work hard in exchange for your sponsorthip. The likely and intended result is that you will see several hundred quality articles go live during your sponsorship period, ensuring your brand, product or service is visible to the precise audience you're attempting to reach.

Sponsor the site today, for the low price outlined above. To get started, just email jason AT honestgamers DOT com. Serious inquiries only, please!
