Title: I'm not some sort of superhuman, damnit! Posted: March 28, 2007 (08:50 AM)
DDR. Wow. Fun as all hell, but I don't see how it's humanly possible to clear songs at the harder difficulties. Here are 3 ways you can clear them:
1. Have 3 or more legs. When there's a thousand steps you have to complete coming at you at blazing speed to the point where you're ready to fall dead and the dance mat is begging for mercy, having an extra leg or two isn't such a bad idea. Mutation ftw.
2. Have either the ability to control time or super speed. Slow it down for the rest of the game and dominate with your "super speed". Or, you know, you can always adjust the game speed options to play the song slower so you have more time to complete steps. But where's the pride in that?
3. Be Asian.

Actually, the best players I've met were all white, so no cheating with the race card. When you try playing Street Fighter in the arcade, then we'll talk.
A couple of tips for you:
1) Always remember that you don't have to move your foot off the arrow after hitting it. You would just be doing twice the work then, and it would make some songs impossible.
2) Use the 1.5x speed option to your advantage. Sure it makes the arrows go by a little quicker, but it also increases the space between them. It's good tactic when you can't make heads or tails of a cluster of arrows.
What's the hardest song and difficulty that you're up to?

Anyone that's been to an indie band's live show can tell you why I would suck at DDR.

I'm playing on Basic right now. It's not much of a problem, really, it's just that some songs (I can't remember the names) have steps that go crazy. I checked out the difficulty above Basic and I freaked out over how many steps came up.

You get used to it after a while. When I go to the arcade, some curious bystander always comes up and assumes that I'm either not actually playing the game, or that I memorized the steps. In truth, it's about recognizing patterns. I rarely see up, down, left, or right anymore. I see the shapes and patterns the arrows combine to make. This is also why I can't play Pump It Up or Dance Factory. I keep hitting the wrong arrows.

I just remembered in my insomnia induced state that I had an Asian friend in High School that couldn't dance worth a shit. However, he was kinda weird and once cried when a peanut was thrown at him. But yeah, he'd still probably suck at DDR.
