Hexen: Beyond Heretic (PlayStation)

Hexen: Beyond Heretic review (PSX)

Reviewed on December 05, 2004

Hexen for the PSX is one of those games that you will only want to play when you are either 1.) bored out of your wits, 2.) masochistic, or 3.) wanting to appreciate your better games. It can really only be described as a total lackluster effort that is so bad, it would be better to take a lighter and watch this thing slowly melt. After all, horrible video games only have so many uses, but Hexen has even fewer because it’s not just horrible; it’s downright the base scum of video gaming!

Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete (PlayStation)

Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete review (PSX)

Reviewed on November 29, 2004

I knew a girl once. We got along perfectly. She was the most interesting and fascinating creature I ever met. I could spend hours with her, always happy, sharing the good and the bad times. It seemed like every time I talked to her I learned something new. Despite being perfect for me, she did have her flaws though. She was kind of chubby… ok ok, she was pretty damn fat. She also wore thick glasses that seemed to triple her eye size when she was wearing them. I was not shallow though, so I staye...

Chrono Cross (PlayStation)

Chrono Cross review (PSX)

Reviewed on November 27, 2004

From conceivance to deadline, there was only one possibility for Chrono Cross, and that was complete and utter failure. The growing giant Squaresoft realized this and, loathe to tarnish their growing reputation as a divine RPG developer, decided to make Chrono Cross an indirect sequel to the highly fabled Chrono Trigger, granting Chrono Cross commercial success. Unfortunately, its degree of caliber was much lower. Trying to cash in on the growing userbase of graphic w...

Critical Depth (PlayStation)

Critical Depth review (PSX)

Reviewed on November 15, 2004

Critical Depth is a very enjoyable action game. It takes vehicular combat to a whole new level, literally. Many people may just find this as another Twisted Metal wannabe, but it’s is different is so many ways. There is a better storyline in Critical Depth, and well, its underwater. Maneuvering with submarines rather than cars is a totally different experience. That’s enough proof for me that it’s an original game.

Jupiter Strike (PlayStation)

Jupiter Strike review (PSX)

Reviewed on November 15, 2004

Oh man. It’s Jupiter Strike. I knew I would have to face this day sooner or later. It’s now time to write this review. In Jupiter Strike, you fly a spacecraft through outer space while dodging enemy fire and taking down some ships of your own. The game seems typical, right? WRONG! This game is a lot worse than most typical games. The graphics are passable, but everything else in the game is terrible. The sound, controls, storyline, gameplay, and replay value, well, ...

Civilization II review (PSX)

Reviewed on November 15, 2004

Ever dreamt of being king? Civilization II lets you do just that. Become the leader of one from over twenty civilizations. Build some cities. Explore your world. Discover amazing technologies. Conquer rival nations. Negotiate with friendly nations. Then if you survive all of that, you can take your country to the outer limits. In Civilization II, the possibilities are endless.

Miss Spider's Tea Party (PlayStation)

Miss Spider's Tea Party review (PSX)

Reviewed on November 14, 2004

Video games for the younger generation. That’s what the world needs more of. Games like this one here. Games like Miss Spider’s Tea Party. Educational games that teach youngsters a few bits of basic education, yet providing some wholesome fun while doing it. Okay, so they might be a little educational and beneficial to little kids. But how is it as a video game? You know, how’s its “wholesome fun” part? Well . . . . . .

World Destruction League: Thunder Tanks (PlayStation)

World Destruction League: Thunder Tanks review (PSX)

Reviewed on November 09, 2004

Sometimes I wonder whether or not some people know what a truly bad game is like. Every now and then a game comes out that exemplifies everything that can possibly go wrong with a game, the kind of game that makes you question the existence of quality assurance tests. World Destruction League: Thunder Tanks is one of those games. The only incentive to play it is to get a good feel for what a truly bad game is like. This game is a monstrosity that has no redeeming qualities of which to speak.

Suikoden (PlayStation)

Suikoden review (PSX)

Reviewed on November 06, 2004

Good, but not great – this is the tragic theme that pervades Suikoden, a competent game that has received more praise than it deserves. Many of the features Suikoden fans purport as its most distinguishing aspects are actually its greatest flaws. Make no mistake: Konami’s foray into the role-playing genre is a solid one, but their inexperience with the genre is glaring: the result is a highly generic role-playing game that fails to evoke the grandness that allows a console role-playing game to t...

Spec Ops: Stealth Patrol (PlayStation)

Spec Ops: Stealth Patrol review (PSX)

Reviewed on October 22, 2004

The Army Men series has, over the years, accumulated a degree of infamy; no matter how asinine and critically incinerated the previous title had been, the developer used it all over again, maybe adding in a toy helicopter gimmick, for the next game. And so it went on.

The Legend of Dragoon (PlayStation)

The Legend of Dragoon review (PSX)

Reviewed on October 07, 2004

Final Fantasy VII was the turning point of the video game market, selling in the tens of millions of copies worldwide, making RPGs the mainstream. The success that it had was the envy of many companies, Sony included. Thus started a first-party RPG project known as Legend of Dragoon, which took nearly three years to develop.

Einhander (PlayStation)

Einhander review (PSX)

Reviewed on September 17, 2004

In an age where mundane RPGs and over-the-top sequels rule the market, it’s rare to even hear the word ‘3D shooter’ out of any gamer’s mouth. The genre that had its golden days back on the Genesis is seldom heard of anymore. When put against the newest Final Fantasy or Silent hill, the old-school game play style simply cannot compete. Most gamers would rather aid the newest fifteen-year-old protagonist through puberty and first kisses than mop the floor with screen-sized space denizens from a di...

Gekioh: Shooting King (PlayStation)

Gekioh: Shooting King review (PSX)

Reviewed on September 11, 2004

If the rather generic (though generally appropriate) game music was getting on your nerves, switch to the new mode to hear a laugh track and silly music as the on-screen jet fights the good fight against alien scum. It’s definitely humorous, and it’s only one of the options. Another mode finds you limited in view so that it feels like you’re playing a game on a small calculator (quite fun, actually, and challenging), while yet another slows down the action to a near-crawl.

Mega Man X4 (PlayStation)

Mega Man X4 review (PSX)

Reviewed on September 04, 2004

If there's one thing gamers know about Capcom, it's that they like to reap the rewards of a successful title. I mean, come on. Six Mega Man games on one console, countless Street Fighter rehashes and a remake of about every single Resident Evil game to exist? Out of those franchises, though, Mega Man has been the most popular. Most gamers have loved to play as the short blue robot, shooting bad guys and fighting for everlasting peace. And its most famous spin-off, the X series, has been j...

Pocket Fighter (PlayStation)

Pocket Fighter review (PSX)

Reviewed on August 27, 2004

There has never been nor will there ever be again another fighting game quite like this. For you see, Pocket Fighter is unique. Pocket Fighter is special. Pocket Fighter is whacked out Japanese lunacy pumped up on 'shrooms and put through a fanboy themed blender. It's everything that a true Capcom fanatic could ever want in a fighter, and nothing anyone else would even come close to understanding. At first glance, you may think that you get it. It's a 2d one on one fighter isn't it? As close as ...

Final Fantasy VIII review (PSX)

Reviewed on August 27, 2004

The ocean looks calm, as the tide moves inward. Suddenly, the tranquil beach scene transforms into a flower field, as a lonely girl in a blue cape walks across. She holds a golden feather in her hand, which floats up into the sky. Then, a brown-haired young man in a black jacket grips his gunblade by the hilt. Enter Squall Leonhart, a lone wolf at a military school known as ''Garden''. He goes through life routinely, ignoring almost everyone and having numerous struggles with his rival Seifer Al...

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (PlayStation)

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night review (PSX)

Reviewed on August 20, 2004

Throughout the glory days of the eight- and 16-bit systems, Konami’s Castlevania series earned a reputation as a tough, unforgiving collection of platform games. Moving your fragile (taking as few as four hits to kill) hero through level after level loaded with bottomless pits and awkwardly-placed enemies proved to be a frustrating task. An emotionally rewarding task, as beating Dracula, Death and the rest of the gang was an accomplishment to be proud of, but still a frustrating one.

Xenogears review (PSX)

SQUARE is most noted for it's excellent Final Fantasy franchise, one of the most popular franchises to ever hit the videogame circuit. However, they have expanded from just Final Fantasy in the past with excellent and popular games such as Chrono Trigger and Parasite Eve, and Xenogears is no exception.
