Portal 2 review (X360)Reviewed on April 25, 2011Breaking free of the chains and finally seeing what lies beyond Aperture’s white test chamber walls was one of Portal’s greatest pleasures, and the sequel mimics that sense of discovery beautifully. The key difference is that when Portal 2 reaches this point, the game has only just begun. |

Crystal Defenders review (X360)Reviewed on April 23, 2011Even if you have the proper characters on the map, sometimes that’s not enough. You might have placed a bunch of archers but if none of them are leveled up, later foes can shrug off their attacks and rush through an entire gauntlet of archers or wizards. Since every level a character gains costs you more gold than the previous one did, Crystal Defenders becomes one of the most exhilarating games about effective resource management that you’ll find on Xbox Live. A single mistake can be enough to throw off your whole approach. |

Beyond Good & Evil HD review (X360)Reviewed on April 23, 2011The Live Arcade download is a perfect way for any of the too many people who missed out upon release to catch up. It has shiny new HD enhancements, and Christophe Héral’s fantastically atypical score is all the sharper. More to the point, it’s an easy way to snag a great game without going outside. I hear there’s wolves out there. |

Mortal Kombat review (X360)Reviewed on April 23, 2011Mortal Kombat seems now to be a good ol' friend of us gamers, having been splattering our screens with decapitated heads and ridiculously bloody limbs for nearly two decades, and whilst it's always nice to have a polished and sparkling new addition to an old saga, of course there's always that running risk of defacing a series which has set such a high bench mark for fans internationally. |

NASCAR 2011: The Game review (X360)Reviewed on April 19, 2011There's plenty of good in here for the true fan; a lot of love went into trivia, racers, cars and feel. If you're into NASCAR this is a good buy, but a leftover copy of Forza 3 or Gran Turismo 5 would be a better purchase for the casual fan of realistic racers. |

Crysis 2 review (X360)Reviewed on April 18, 2011Crysis 2 is easily worth checking out for reasons that go beyond looks (and given how long it is, thank Christ for that). Crytek grants us the ability to turn invisible, leap from the roof of a very tall building and power-kick a parked car into an enemy soldier’s face all within the span of a few seconds, and it’s for those moments that Crysis 2 doesn’t blur together with the pack of steely grey twitch shooters on the market. |

Mass Effect 2: Arrival review (X360)Reviewed on April 11, 2011Arrival’s only purpose is to reiterate what we already know, which is that the Reapers are on their way and that everything we’ve done so far has only delayed the inevitable. Even a climactic encounter with Harbinger only sees him repeating what he’s been shouting at you for the entire game (and, for that matter, what Sovereign was shouting at you in the last game). |

Homefront review (X360)Reviewed on March 29, 2011Before we even have a gun in our hands, Kaos sends us through a Modern Warfare-esque “sit in a vehicle and watch stuff happen” introductory sequence, during which we’re shown a young couple being lined up on a busy street and shot while their crying toddler watches. By the second level, we see the corpses of American civilians being dumped by bulldozers into mass graves. Jeez. Slow burn much, Homefront? |

Assassin's Creed review (X360)Reviewed on March 24, 2011Stealth is not important as you’d think. With a name like Assassin’s Creed, wouldn’t you expect the gameplay to revolve around sneaking around and killing your targets and getting out undetected? Of course you would! The brotherhood makes a big deal about not drawing attention, but you’ll find its borderline impossible NOT to draw attention. Most of the assassinations take place in crowded, guarded areas, full of frustrating gameplay mechanics like twitchy guards and troublemakers. |
