Doom (Game Boy Advance)

Doom review (GBA)

Reviewed on August 05, 2007

It's a future day. As a Marine for Union Aerospace Corporation, or UAC, you're no pushover. You walk with purpose wherever you go, flexing as many muscles as possible. On the job one day, you hear a rumor that the Mars moonbase is having problems. This is somewhat surprising, as ever since its establishment, it had been surprisingly well-kept with few if any issues. As you hear more of the story, you realize that this is serious. Marines and scientists at the base are being slaughtered by hellis...

Disney/Pixar Ratatouille (Game Boy Advance)

Disney/Pixar Ratatouille review (GBA)

Reviewed on July 22, 2007

There are license-based adventures on the Game Boy Advance that provide a fantastic experience. Ratatouille isn’t one of them. It doesn’t even come close. Without ever truly failing on a technical level, the game sucks all of the fun out of its license. The resulting product isn’t entertaining in the slightest.

The Barbie Diaries: High School Mystery (Game Boy Advance)

The Barbie Diaries: High School Mystery review (GBA)

Reviewed on July 11, 2007

If you ever get around to playing The Barbie Diaries: High School Mystery, then your health and safety may be at risk. As the warning screen at the start says, you need to read the Health and Safety Precautions Booklet before you start the game, because the last thing we need are people having heart attacks or exploding. Barbie demands it.

Pocky & Rocky with Becky (Game Boy Advance)

Pocky & Rocky with Becky review (GBA)

Reviewed on July 11, 2007

Ah, yes. You were one of the players with nostalgia in your eyes as you picked up a copy of Pocky & Rocky With Becky. Memories of the older games gave you hope...strength. How much did you pay for it? 15-20$? And what did you trade it in for when you returned in later that day or the next? Huh? Why do I ask this? Because no reasonable person would have kept this horrid excuse for ''fun''!

Dark Arena (Game Boy Advance)

Dark Arena review (GBA)

Reviewed on July 11, 2007

Dark Arena had plenty going for it to make me buy it. It's a 3-D Shooter. It was cheap(GBA games are usually cheaper than ''console'' games). It talked about of multiple weapons and skill levels. It talked challenging A.I. It talked....too much. It told me it would give me more than it could. Where did it fail me? Let's start, shall we?

The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap (Game Boy Advance)

The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap review (GBA)

Reviewed on July 05, 2007

If you know me well – and, let’s face it, you probably don’t – then you may have picked up that The Legend of Zelda is my favorite videogame franchise of all time, and that, as far as I'm concerned, few other games can even come close to matching Zelda’s consistency and reliability to deliver challenge, intelligence, and solid thrills all around.

Gunstar Super Heroes (Game Boy Advance)

Gunstar Super Heroes review (GBA)

Reviewed on July 03, 2007

If a good review requires an analogy, then I will say that comparing Gunstar Super Heroes to a bigger, better, more complete action game is like comparing the Bible to an actual novel. This is to say nothing of my religious beliefs or my opinion on the Bible as a piece of historic literature (my thoughts on this matter do not belong at a place like HonestGamers), but let's make this clear: Do you ever just read the Bible, chapter by chapter, like a normal book? Of course not. You r...

Pferd & Pony: Mein Pferdehof (Game Boy Advance)

Pferd & Pony: Mein Pferdehof review (GBA)

Reviewed on July 01, 2007

Behold, the clip-clopping of hooves. Elegant society ladies will recognise this sound from Ascot, on a race day associated with the wearing of hats and the frittering away of millions of pounds on a fancy steed for the stables. The rest of us may be more familiar with this sound as being from Monty Python and the Holy Grail - the bashing of coconut husks together. Either way, this sound is synonymous with horses - perhaps necessary to feel the true atmosphere of racing ponies. It is this sound t...

TMNT (Game Boy Advance)

TMNT review (GBA)

Reviewed on June 09, 2007

I'm sure the majority of us adults will surely remember sitting in front of the TV, watching the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles way back in the 80's or 90's. Infact, I'm sure everyone one of us at least had one Turtles merchandise, whether it was a shirt, or action figure. Turtle mania was so huge back then, video games were released for the series. Though the first game was a flop, the second game is arguably the best Turtles game, as is the fourth one. Both of them played like an Arcade Beat 'Em...

Super Puzzle Fighter II (Game Boy Advance)

Super Puzzle Fighter II review (GBA)

Reviewed on June 09, 2007

Anyone that knows me will tell you I'm not exactly the biggest puzzle guru out there. In fact, if I play anything that resembles puzzles or even a strategy type game, chances are that I'll suck at it. I can usually play the basic puzzle games like Tetris, Dr. Mario, and Bust-A-Move. However, that doesn't mean that I'm not always open to a new puzzle game. I had never heard of Super Puzzle Fighter II before, and when I stumbled across the game, I thought I'd go ahead and give it a shot. To my sur...

Dual Blades (Game Boy Advance)

Dual Blades review (GBA)

Reviewed on May 27, 2007

Meet Alperen. He’s the villain of Dual Blades, the wielder of a powerful weapon of the same name. He doesn’t actually use two swords, though; he somehow stumbled across a mystical blade, sold his soul to claim it, and thus created the legendary sword. In return, the Dual Blades granted him immortality, leaving him doomed to wander the Earth as an ageless swordsman for the rest of his existence. Of course, the possibility of such power has led several other warriors to defeat Alperen and g...

Mobile Suit Gundam Seed: Battle Assault review (GBA)

Reviewed on May 26, 2007

Gundam. For anime fans, that name should conjure up images of massive robots decked out with laser cannons and energy blades. Since its inception in 1979, the franchise has spawned multiple series featuring these hulking mechs and lives of their pilots. Gundam SEED follows in the tradition of its predecessors by portraying an ongoing struggle between the Earth’s military alliance and ZAFT, a group comprised of the united space colonies. This series focuses more on the issues of genetic en...

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance review (GBA)

Reviewed on May 26, 2007

Marche Radiuju has a problem. As the new kid in St. Ivalice, he is both shy and withdrawn from his fellow classmates. Instead of experiencing his childhood, he spends his time caring for his younger brother Doned, whose crippling illness has left him stuck in a wheelchair. Then there’s Marche’s friend Ritz, who is utterly insecure over her appearance (because having weird hair is so much worse than being handicapped for life). Lastly, there’s Mewt, a wimpy bully magnet with an alcoholic f...

Garfield and His Nine Lives (Game Boy Advance)

Garfield and His Nine Lives review (GBA)

Reviewed on March 30, 2007

Garfield’s overweight, lazy, constantly eating, and his sense of humor is mean-spirited, but you can’t help but love him. Whether you think he’s funny or not, Garfield is an instantly recognizable cultural icon. The iconic orange cat has been featured in movies, television, and on the back of car windows across the world. Garfield has been successful across a variety of mediums, but his success has never translated into the video game world. Garfield’s most recent foray into the electronic world...

Castlevania: Circle of the Moon (Game Boy Advance)

Castlevania: Circle of the Moon review (GBA)

Reviewed on March 13, 2007

Anyone that's been playing games for a while will tell you that games simply aren't as difficult as they used to be. Games were probably more difficult in the past because they lacked the longevity and breadth of content that we're accustomed to in this day and age. But something has always been true about these hard (but fair) games: Finally completing them is just oh so satisfying. Castlevania's debut on the Game Boy Advance rekindles that fire of yore by delivering one of the most challenging...

Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (Game Boy Advance)

Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith review (GBA)

Reviewed on March 06, 2007

Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith is a simple, humble story about a whiny little pissant’s journey into becoming one of the most iconic villains in movie history. Its video game counterpart is a simple, humble story about a whiny little pissant walking to the right constantly and killing everything he sees.

Final Fantasy VI Advance (Game Boy Advance)

Final Fantasy VI Advance review (GBA)

Reviewed on March 01, 2007

(Note: I never played the original FF6, so I have no real views on the new translation debate. However, from comparing scripts, I think the new script is a lot better and more clear. If you are playing the game for nostalgia, you should probably be doing it with a SNES controller in your hand anyway, that’s all I have to say on that…)

Mazes of Fate (Game Boy Advance)

Mazes of Fate review (GBA)

Reviewed on February 18, 2007

MoF has a grand story of course, telling of mankind's greed and other sins against God, and of hatred nurtured between us and a race of goatmen. I can't say that the tale did anything for me other than give me a chuckle at the word 'goatmen', but it could be that fantasy fans live for this stuff.

Back to Stone (Game Boy Advance)

Back to Stone review (GBA)

Reviewed on January 31, 2007

As you wake up, waves of dread and sickness overwhelm you. After spewing up some bile and blood, you try to stagger to your feet, only to stumble backwards onto the stony wall of your cell. Trying to get your bearings is pointless; the room was designed to prevent any light from seeping in. You don’t know what time or day it is. You don’t know how long it’s been since you were thrown into this stinking hellhole. In that absolute darkness, the only things you can hear are the sounds of chains cla...

Kirby & The Amazing Mirror (Game Boy Advance)

Kirby & The Amazing Mirror review (GBA)

Reviewed on January 21, 2007

Kirby platformer games have always been loaded to the brim with quality and a unique style. Floating through the air, and swallowing enemies to gain their special abilities as our pudgy, pink protagonist is a formula that works, and one that would have continued to work if HAL had stuck with it. But instead of sticking with the tried-and-true method of making a Kirby game, they've decided to give us something new with Kirby and the Amazing Mirror. Taking a leaf out of the Metroid games, The Amaz...
