Ufouria review (NES)Reviewed on March 31, 2011Think of it as Mario meets Metroid. So... Marioid? Metrio? |

Super Mario Bros. review (NES)Reviewed on March 30, 2011You’ll find that every plat-former made since then has copied the formula of Super Mario Bros. to some extent. Characters collect items, find new ways to defeat enemies, and explore “levels’ of unique environments. |

Yoshi's Cookie review (NES)Reviewed on March 20, 2011Using minimal wit, you are tasked with moving the cookies around to form matching rows and columns with the hopes of clearing the them out. Yes, it's as boring as it sounds. |

Bucky O'Hare review (NES)Reviewed on March 12, 2011Each scene plays out like a perilous mini-adventure, forming levels like rough and rugged trips through amusements park in hell. The adventure is stupendous, even if the combat is so-so. |

Zunou Senkan Galg review (NES)Reviewed on March 10, 2011The diva sees you struggling, curls her fat lips into a smug smile, and makes another demand. “Oh, and do that without continues,” she says with a sassy shake of her hips. You get three lives in ZSG and not a single continue. It demands that you grab 100 pieces from a potential 100 or more levels without getting a single game over, and with only one hit per life. |

Final Fantasy review (NES)Reviewed on March 05, 2011There was a time when most of my friends were discovering girls and I was completely ignoring them. I had bigger things to worry about, like how to best destroy Kary and restore the fire crystal. While most of my friends were talking about boobs and making out, I was talking about swords and critical strikes. Final Fantasy was one of those gateways to the realm of extended virginity, but it was a blast. |

Quattro Adventure review (NES)Reviewed on March 03, 2011Masochists never back down from a challenging or particularly awful game. We do, however, tend to shy away from multiple turkeys on one cartridge. It's as though Codemasters knew our weakness and developed Quattro Adventure to break us. No, not developed; turned loose. Many were wounded, some even perished, but a few rose their heads up high and said, “I survived Quattro Adventure!” |

Ikari Warriors review (NES)Reviewed on February 23, 2011Bungle in the jungle |

Godzilla: Monster of Monsters review (NES)Reviewed on February 13, 2011Godzilla: Monster of Monsters was the game I had been dreaming of as a child. What young Godzilla fan and budding b-movie enthusiast wouldn't want to play a game where you pound the pavement as Big G, smashing civilization, torching familiar faces of the rogues gallery like King Ghidorah and Gigan, and giving the JSDF a torturous migraine? The thought gave me a nerdgasm. |

Phantom Fighter review (NES)Reviewed on February 10, 2011It's pitch-black and freezing. The wind doesn't chill your bones as much as the stillness hanging over all the Chinese villages. The hustle and bustle of human life had been replaced by the horrified screams of the villagers as the kyonshis, undead creatures of East Asian folklore, devoured them, and then there came only complete silence. Even the insects dare not buzz and pasturing animals remain invisible. If a man were to listen ... |

Hydlide review (NES)Reviewed on February 05, 2011You really do run into trouble with this one... |

Krazy Kreatures review (NES)Reviewed on January 30, 2011Imagine a modern match-three mobile game, except waaaaay dated. |
||
Xexyz review (NES)Reviewed on January 24, 2011Humanity nearly wiped itself clean off the map, and the Mother Nature attempted to aid the process with a few hundred natural disasters. Peaceful fairies then came along and built a nation on the bones and smoldering ruins of humanity and called it Xexyz. To keep peace and order, they established five cute anime girls as princesses, and everyone lived happily ever after. |

The Magic of Scheherazade review (NES)Reviewed on January 14, 2011Leap off that steed and cast away that shining armor. It's time to take the hot sands, to don a turban and wield a scimitar with deadly grace. Leave behind those fantasies that have been final for fourteen games or those quests of the dragon kind, and delve into The Magic of Scheherazade. It's a wonderful RPG that maintains the sword and sorcery feel, yet changes the setting all together. It's not set in a world like medieval times, but more akin to Arabian Nights. With much t... |

Kirby's Adventure review (NES)Reviewed on January 08, 2011Kirby's Adventure is innocence; a reminder of a youth full of optimism and dreams where even the thought of pitfalls seemed incomprehensible. When life gets me down, it offers solace as its bright colors, wildly varying levels and unrelenting cuteness overwhelm me until I have no choice but to smile and lose myself in the game. Even after all these years, it still has that effect — something that makes me grateful. |

Archon review (NES)Reviewed on January 05, 2011Conquest! That supreme notion that you have overcome your opponents, that the ground you walk on is now yours, and that all your opponents can do is cry and bleed. Ha-ha, you might laugh. My knights have cut your goblins to ribbons. My unicorns now frolic in the fields littered with the body parts of your manitcores. This is war, this is Archon. It's a strategy game that wins for being simple and addictive, despite being too easy. |

8 Eyes review (NES)Reviewed on January 02, 2011Everyone compares 8 Eyes to Castlevania, and gamers are split down the middle on which is better. If you couldn't tell by my score, I'm of the “Castlevania is better” persuasion. Both games are marked for having extreme challenge, though the implementation of the challenge differs in both. Castlevania has simple gameplay, but would rather give you difficult situations that require timing and skill. It's m... |

The Legend of Kage review (NES)Reviewed on November 26, 2010Turning on the NES that day cleared the room. The instant the grating music kicked in and that faceless woman in a red kimono strutted across the screen and was carried away by a ninja, my brother left the room. He said something about his ears and broken glass, but I didn't catch the whole thing. I was too entranced in Legend of Kage. It wasn't that the game was so enjoyable that it took me away and thrust me into that state of euphoria commonly associated with Contra or Super Mario Bros. 3... |

Yoshi review (NES)Reviewed on November 26, 2010Bloopers. Boos. Piranha plants and goombas. All four encapsulated foes will fall from the skies as an especially pudgy rendition of Mario attempts to sort the baddies’ landing spots upon four separate platters below, his outstretched arms holding any two adjacent columns and a tap of either action button switching the stacks. Match the free-falling type with the type it lands atop and both will disappear, leaving more breathing room beneath the top barrier as the next pair, or on higher levels trio, begins its descent. |
