Alien Storm review (GEN)

Reviewed on April 16, 2014

Like many pre-16 bit conversions before, Alien Storm demonstrates how the arcades power isn’t always necessary to provide an arcade style blast.

Flicky was one of those games made back when Sega needed a mascot. Did he have a chance with this game? please read to hear my thoughts.

Road Rash II (Genesis)

Road Rash II review (GEN)

Reviewed on August 22, 2013

Racing games back then came at a disadvantage compared to other genres, as they try to emulate a real-life experience using what hardware was available. Their relevance greatly diminished when new hardware emerges, but Road Rash II still stands a timeless classic that has evaded obsolescence.

Tougi-Ou: King Colossus review (GEN)

Reviewed on July 11, 2013

You start out as some anonymous kid living with an old guy who seems to hate you, and a younger woman who tries to work as a buffer. She also heals you whenever you visit, so I liked her almost as much as I hated how the game basically shrugs off the old dude's behavior as "tough love".

Coming off the heels of Revenge of Shinobi, a highly-praised game during the Genesis' launch year, was Shadow Dancer, a follow-up that Revenge fans weren't expecting.

Quackshot Starring Donald Duck (Genesis)

Quackshot Starring Donald Duck review (GEN)

Reviewed on March 23, 2013

Although the various equipment available had the potential to facilitate a rousing adventure that could have offered a true sense of exploration, most stages are instead hampered by extremely linear design with little or nothing worthwhile to see that’s off the beaten path. Item swapping mostly just amounts to busy work, necessary though it is, and that process becomes less tolerable each time you’re forced to take another run through an area because you lost your last life and were returned to the world map.

Batman Returns (Genesis)

Batman Returns review (GEN)

Reviewed on December 10, 2012

I somehow mistook Batman Returns' gloomy cold opening, where the Caped Crusader fights his way to the top of a building and failing to save the Ice Princess from a plunge, as a sign that this side-scrolling platformer might be good.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 review (GEN)

In a way, the game feels like a return to form, since it flows more like the first Sonic title than the second, and dare I say, acts almost like the real successor to Sonic 1.

BlueSky Software, who later went on to create the Vectorman games, should be commended for doing their homework, from successfully recreating the atmosphere and sound effects, to the vivid animations that make you feel part of its world.

What's interesting about the dungeons though, is that they all have different ideas about them, and while the overall conquering method stays the same, you'll need to borrow different approaches to do so.
