Fatal Labyrinth (Genesis)

Fatal Labyrinth review (GEN)

Reviewed on December 30, 2004

The scene opens in a small village set in the shadow of a huge castle; the castle Dragonia no less. Ghouls have come forth from this edifice and stole the holy goblet from the village, and so condemning the world to darkness. Panic is spreading around the town and residents are worried they won’t be able to hang their laundry out no more. So you have been chosen to venture forth into the castle to retake this goblet, and then slay the dragon that sits stop the tallest tower for good measure.
Wings of Wor (Genesis)

Wings of Wor review (GEN)

Reviewed on April 13, 2004

Shooters on the Genesis have let us pilot just about every form of craft ever conceived. Count the numerous times we have solely saved the galaxy at the controls of some futuristic ship, armed to the teeth with the most advanced lasers. Remember how we destroyed entire forces, in our planes and helicopters, leaving tanks smoking in our wake. Gynoug - or Wings of Wor - strays from this well trodden path, giving us the chance to don wings and take to the sky, to rid the planet Iccus of an evil mut...
OutRun (Genesis)

OutRun review (GEN)

Back in the mid-eighties, just as console gaming was being offered to the world. You could bet your life that any arcade you went in had an Outrun machine, whichever one of its few incarnations it may have been. From the standing cabinet with a steering wheel and pedals, to the full blown sit-down Ferrari red monster that looked like the car you drove in the game – you could be sure it was there.
Hellfire (Genesis)

Hellfire review (GEN)

Reviewed on March 31, 2004

Being fronted with the one-man-against-the-universe plot isn’t something unfamiliar when playing any of the multitude of shooters on the Genesis. Hellfire - one of the many arcade shooter ports here on the Genesis – isn’t any exception, quite the same in fact. Set adrift from your mothership armed with only your regular weapon and the devastating, but limited, Hellfire laser, you are expected to save the universe from its impending doom.
Broken Sword: The Sleeping Dragon (PC)

Broken Sword: The Sleeping Dragon review (PC)

Reviewed on February 18, 2004

Broken Sword, the award winning series, finally makes a long-awaited return to the pc and a new generation of consoles alike. Revolution promised changes this time however and their claims haven’t gone unfulfilled. Scrapping the tried and tested interface of old, in favour of a bold new design, our old friends George and Nico return from their previous global adventures to thwart another worldwide disaster.
Pac-Attack (Genesis)

Pac-Attack review (GEN)

Reviewed on January 16, 2004

It seems developers have no problem these days with using their star characters to promote other games that are hardly relative. A quick look through the gaming platforms of old uncover several titles which are basically simple in execution, but with a mascot on top. Something that may spring to mind is Dr.Mario – a poor Tetris clone with Nintendo’s plumber hero stuck in for a few cheap sales. He’s not the only victim however. Sega threw sonic into a pinball machine for Sonic Spinball, although ...
Light Crusader (Genesis)

Light Crusader review (GEN)

Reviewed on January 01, 2004

As gaming has progressed through the years, new technology has enabled us to play new concepts which were not possible before. Platformers and shooters suddenly accommodated a third dimension for us to explore with the invention of the thirty-two-bit era. Many new options seems available to developers with each release and us gamers can look forward to several new ground breaking games each year.
Ka-Ge-Ki: Fists of Steel (Genesis)

Ka-Ge-Ki: Fists of Steel review (GEN)

Reviewed on December 29, 2003

Hearken back to the days of Street Fighter II and Mortal Kombat. Think of the fantastic gameplay, endless amounts of moves and combo’s, the stunning backdrops – the memories are endless. Remember how long we waited for them on our favourite consoles, and how sweet the first game was once we got to finally play it. Hold that thought for a moment --- and then cast your mind back a little further to the time before all of that happened. Which beat-em’-up used to fulfil your excitement before these ...
Mortal Kombat (Genesis)

Mortal Kombat review (GEN)

Reviewed on December 28, 2003

The one-on-one fighting genre is one of the oldest among them all. Anyone old enough to remember gaming in the eighties will no doubt have stumbled upon Yie-Ar Kung Fu, IK+ or Way of the Exploding fist to name a few. As we journeyed into the nineties, Capcom championed the field with the legendary Street Fighter and its multitude of sequels. Its place at the top of the tree hasn’t been unchallenged however, with its main contender being in the form of Mortal Kombat.

Rings of Power (Genesis)

Rings of Power review (GEN)

Reviewed on December 19, 2003

If asked who Naughty Dog software are, most answers would probably include Crash Bandicoot or possibly Jak and Daxter. You would be lucky to hear the words Rings of Power, and indeed, it was well after Crash Bandicoot was released that I realised that it was the same developer who was behind the games. Rings of Power was their only venture into the world of the Genesis, and furthermore, only their fourth game to be released – the previous three being on the PC, Amiga and Apple.
