Age of Wonders III review (PC)

Reviewed on April 16, 2014

Take Civilization V, greatly simplify city management, throw in tactical RPG battles and replace all the ethnicities with classical fantasy races. You now have a close approximation of the addictive experience that is Age of Wonders III. It took a great deal of willpower to pry myself away from the game long enough to write this review.

I stopped caring about getting to know Seattle as soon as the city became nothing more than dead space, something to stand between you and your next waypoint.

Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z review (PS3)

Reviewed on April 04, 2014

Seeing two or even three of the larger enemies the player struggled with earlier go down after a well planned and executed elemental strategy pays off is immensely satisfying. That is, until a camera or control issue ruins the fun.

Danmaku Unlimited 2 keeps dialling up its challenge, asking you to find increasingly smaller envelopes of order inside an orgy of chaos.

I'm easily frustrated, but I honestly, truly did not give up on Cloudbuilt out of anger. I gave up on it because it is beyond my abilities as a gamer.

Urbanix (Wii)

Urbanix review (WII)

Reviewed on March 29, 2014

There's a lot of content to clear in Urbanix and the design is generally inviting, but most of the experience is similar enough that you might not appreciate the volume.

A light gun game might not seem like an ideal match for Raccoon City's horrors, but it actually works out quite nicely overall.

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes review (PS3)

Reviewed on March 25, 2014

At first, the game's brevity and lack of resolution made me question why it was released as a standalone title. But as I played, I came to realize that despite adding elements from the popular shooters of the moment, this game is actually a throwback to an older kind of game design.
