Keith Courage In Alpha Zones (TurboGrafx-16)

Keith Courage In Alpha Zones review (TG16)

Reviewed on March 10, 2005

The Turbografx-16 deserved a better fate than to wind up a distant third to the Super Nintendo and Genesis in the console wars. With superb entries in the platforming and shooter genres, it’s hard to see where the system failed.

Spawn: In the Demon's Hand (Dreamcast)

Spawn: In the Demon's Hand review (DC)

Reviewed on March 08, 2005

Spawn: In the Demon's Hand had a more than fair chance to impress me. The designs of the immortal characters are both varied and inspired; the frail sharpshooter, the angel of death, the jester that transforms into a raging behemoth — they're all quite inspired, and I wanted to like them and their game. But I don't.

Maximo: Ghosts to Glory (PlayStation 2)

Maximo: Ghosts to Glory review (PS2)

Reviewed on March 08, 2005

I’ve played a handful of good 3D updates lately—Castlevania’s Lament of Innocence was one such solid title—but Maximo outdoes that game and just about any I can think of, at least on one crucial level. Other good 3D follow ups do justice to their predecessors, but Maximo is arguably better than the two 16-bitters to come before it. That’s right, better.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (Genesis)

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 review (GEN)

Reviewed on March 08, 2005

The Sonic series never really reached the legendary status many expected, at least it didn't in my mind. Surely, no one was ready for the series to fall apart like it did, at least not after its blazing start, but some would question whether or not the Sonic series was ever great. While the series has had its share of fans, there has also been its detractors, which has compared the series to a lackluster attempt at a new Mario series under the Sega name.

Sonic the Hedgehog Spinball (Genesis)

Sonic the Hedgehog Spinball review (GEN)

Reviewed on March 08, 2005

When the Sonic series started to get really popular, it was inevitable that Sega would begin to slowly produce more and more Sonic games. However, not all of them could be the fun and fast platforming adventures we were used to, right? Therefore, Sega had to take some risks if they were to pimp out the Sonic series. Their first really ''innovative'' (if you could call it that) idea was to put Sonic into a pinball game. Well, I certainly admire their braveness. The Sonic fans were needy and greed...

NHL '95 (Genesis)

NHL '95 review (GEN)

Reviewed on March 08, 2005

I love the NHL series of video games that were released by EA Sports for the Genesis in the later parts of the 90's, and it all started with NHL'94, which I find to be one of the best hockey games of all time. It was also the game that started the whole series, and it will always have a special place in my heart because of this. NHL '95 is a worthwhile addition to the series, and actually outclasses the original in many regards. I would choose NHL '95 to be the best hockey game on the Genesis th...

NBA Jam (Genesis)

NBA Jam review (GEN)

Reviewed on March 08, 2005

We all have heard of the NBA Jam series. Even non-basketball fans love the game for the unique style of gameplay it brings to the table. You see, most basketball games are simulations of real NBA action. And that's fine, as there are some incredible basketball games out there that I do recommend playing without a shadow of a doubt. But, once in a while there's always room for a different style of a game. And that's where NBA Jam comes into play.

Mortal Kombat (Genesis)

Mortal Kombat review (GEN)

Reviewed on March 08, 2005

If there's one thing I hate about video game fans nowadays, it's the fact that if a series has lots of good games, it's automatically assumed that the first game is a classic. Mortal Kombat is the prime example of this. While it is a fine game, it's got a lot of problems that prevent it from becoming a classic. It may have led to a good series, but the original is not a great game at all. The fights are too slow, there's a limited amount of characters, and the game relied too much on fatalities ...

Marble Madness (Genesis)

Marble Madness review (GEN)

Reviewed on March 08, 2005

ell, this gets my selection as most difficult Genesis game ever. There is a reason this game is called Marble Madness: this game is so challenging it's insane!! The game has a very high challenge factor but the game is still pretty good nevertheless. It also was released for a few other consoles, inclduing NES, plus the arcade. The Genesis version is my favorite version of the game, although I have never played the arcade version. Anyways, Marble Madness is a fun and challenging game and a good ...

Super Mario Advance (Game Boy Advance)

Super Mario Advance review (GBA)

Reviewed on March 08, 2005

When Nintendo first announced the new portable console, Game Boy Advance, I knew they were going to launch a Mario game with it. It may have seemed like common sense, but let's think about it. Have you ever heard of a Nintendo console that's launched without a Mario game? It's never been done before (although I am almost positive the Gamecube is going to break this trend), so of course Nintendo was going to release a Mario launch game with the launch of the Game Boy Advance. There's only one sma...

F-Zero: Maximum Velocity (Game Boy Advance)

F-Zero: Maximum Velocity review (GBA)

Reviewed on March 08, 2005

F-Zero is one of the best racing games ever created, and it still provides hours of fun nowadays. So, it was pretty much a no brainer for Nintendo to re-release the game on Game Boy Advance, since they were going to port over several old SNES games. However, just like their rather crappy port of Super Mario Advance, F-Zero: Maximum Velocity is just not that good. It's better than the awful Super Mario Advance, but that is really not saying much. Maximum Velocity is a Maximum Disappointment, and ...

Castlevania: Circle of the Moon review (GBA)

Reviewed on March 08, 2005

The Castlevania series has long been heradled as one as the most influential and innovative video game series of all time. You will rarely ever find a person that does not have anything good to say about the series. It is definitely one of those series that is loved by many and hated by few. In case you are not familar with my stance on the Castlevania series, I will explain it really quickly. I don't like the Castlevania series as much as hardcore fans of the series do, but I do enjoy most of t...

Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins review (GB)

Reviewed on March 08, 2005

I have played a lot of Game Boy games over the years, so I would like to consider myself a fan of the portable system. Every time I go on a vacation, which involves a long car ride or long plane ride, I make sure to take along my Game Boy, along with some of my favorite games for the portable system. I really enjoy a lot of Game Boy games, although I have liked more than others, which brings me to Super Mario Land 2. I really expected to like this game a lot more than I enjoyed playing the origi...

Metroid II: Return of Samus review (GB)

Reviewed on March 08, 2005

Oh my lord. Something told me I was not going to enjoy playing this game when I first decided to sit down and play it. I don't know why, but I had this strange feeling that I was not going to enjoy it. I had enjoyed Super Metroid a lot, and remains one of my favorite games to this day, and Metroid is a classic game, and always will be, but I had a strange feeling that this game was going to turn out to be a crappy game. And guess what?

WWF Royal Rumble (Dreamcast)

WWF Royal Rumble review (DC)

Reviewed on March 08, 2005

A few months ago, I finally received the latest issue of EGM in the mail, and I was looking through it when I saw a preview for a certain game that seemed rather interesting to me. WWF Royal Rumble, the second WWF game (but first console only) to appear on the DC was the name of it, and it sounded rather interesting to me, because I have always been a big fan of the World Wrestling Federation, and a majority of their games have turned out to be classics.

Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes review (DC)

Reviewed on March 08, 2005

When I used to make regular trips to the atcade, I used to play Marvel vs Capcom a lot. Since I am a huge fan of 2D fighting games, especially ones made by Capcom, I was really excited about the game. Featuring all of my favorite Marvel and Capcom charcaters, ranging from Magnetto to Mega Man, I knew I was going to love the game. And the Arcade version did not disappoint. A few months later I learned that Marvel vs Capcom was coming for both the Sega Dreamcast and Sony Playstation video game con...

Crazy Taxi (Dreamcast)

Crazy Taxi review (DC)

Reviewed on March 08, 2005

Crazy Taxi is one of the most interesting games I have ever played. The basic premise of the game is very interesting. The object of the game is to pick up a person at one location and drive them to the next location (their desired destination) as quickly as possible. The game is very realistic, in the fact that it is just like a regular taxi cab ride (well, sort of), considering the fact that there is actually a meter counting the money the passenger owes for the cab ride.

Pitfall II: Lost Caverns review (A2600)

Reviewed on March 08, 2005

The original Pitfall still stands as one of my favorite action/adventure games of all time, and definetly one of my favorite Atari 2600 games. So when I picked up a copy of Pitfall 2 at my local goodwill for ten cents, I expected the game to deliver the same fun and exciting gameplay that the original had. Did it? Sure, the game was fun and very challenging, but overall the game still stands as one of the best Atari 2600 games in the system's history. It may not be as good as the first, in my op...

Keystone Kapers review (A2600)

Reviewed on March 08, 2005

The Atari 2600 has always been home to many classic games, including that darn Pitfall series. There were also some underrated games made for the system, including Solaris (best Atari 2600 game ever??) and Kaboom! And who could forget the immortal classics such as Pitfall, Pitfall 2, River Raid, and Adventure? There was also another underrated game that I enjoyed playing very very much, named Keystone Kapers. The gameplay was fast, fun, and furious, and became very addcitve quickly. It may not h...
