Amped 3 (Xbox 360)

Amped 3 review (X360)

Reviewed on September 30, 2006

You'll also find yourself hired by a Canadian sock-puppet to hunt down a yeti. After being filled in by your odd employer (who uses a sock puppet of his very own to characterise the yeti!) you'll have to chase the abominable snowman down a particularly treacherous slope, outscoring him as he pulls mad tricks on his own snowboard to secure his capture. He'll backflip off an icy ramp and land precariously on a rail which he'll grind down, popping off stunts as he goes. Do the same or be shown up by the missing link!
Bone: The Great Cow Race (PC)

Bone: The Great Cow Race review (PC)

Reviewed on September 28, 2006

A lot of notice was taken of Boneville's shortcomings and fixed up in this outing; while both games drip with a vibrant and goofy charm that will appeal to audiences young and old, the more sinister undertones that Jeff Smith's comics were so loved for have been allowed to further develop in this episode.
Bone: Out from Boneville (PC)

Bone: Out from Boneville review (PC)

Reviewed on September 07, 2006

The comic's appeal was widespread, and, to a point, so is the game. The younger audience will enjoy the goofy characters, the vibrant colours and cartoony graphics whilst older players will enjoy that everything is just a little bit more complex then it seems. Behind the childish presentation lays a strong collection of characters that are a joy to interact with. From the sleepy-eyed Red Dragoon who takes a minimalistic approach to helping the cousins on their way to the triplet of playful possums that bicker for Fone's attention and take an immediate dislike to Phoney, there's an energetic world to explore. But before you can get lost in it, it's over.
Ys III: Wanderers From Ys (Genesis)

Ys III: Wanderers From Ys review (GEN)

Reviewed on August 27, 2006

Ys III presents its bosses not as the typical war-of-attrition drag-out slugfests, but instead as short, brutal affairs that leave little room for tactical manoeuvring and places a bigger emphasis on quick-fire dodging and desperate slicing.
Panzer Dragoon Orta (Xbox)

Panzer Dragoon Orta review (XBX)

Reviewed on August 25, 2006

Find all you need and, in doing so, help Orta find her answers, help her find peace and a place to belong in a war-torn world. Unfreeze the lonely heart of a lost young girl and help her find home.
Jade Empire (Xbox)

Jade Empire review (XBX)

Reviewed on August 17, 2006

The teammate that tags along fails to help matters much; their only use on the battlefield is to draw opposition away from you while they get sliced to ribbons and inflict miserable damage -- even if this appears to be completely contradictory. Take Black Whirlwind, a huge muscle-bound psychopath who lives for mindless violence, a search for the perfect wine and bragging rights. The plot would have you believe that this shaved bear of a man is an unstoppable homicide factory, yet when it is time for his twin axes to be tested, you will often see him being smacked about by even the weakest of foes, leaving you alone to plough through targets unaided.
Silent Hill 4: The Room (Xbox)

Silent Hill 4: The Room review (XBX)

Reviewed on August 10, 2006

Know from the start that every glimpse of promise, every flicker of macabre brilliance and every fleeting second of spine-chilling horror will crash and burn, leaving only a lingering air of disappointment and wasted potential. Because from the second the game starts, so does its biggest flaw.

Tony Hawk's Underground 2 (Xbox)

Tony Hawk's Underground 2 review (XBX)

Reviewed on July 27, 2006

Every now and then I forget this and foolishly revist the game, but in playing, I remember why I abandoned it. THUG2 is less about skating and more about a basic and ludicrous toilet humour that even rugby players wouldn't find amusing.
Devilish: The Next Possession (Genesis)

Devilish: The Next Possession review (GEN)

Reviewed on July 01, 2006

It's such a genuinely zany concept that one wonders going in just how such a thing couldn't provide a quick burst of amusement. And it does. I actually chuckled at the wonderfully contrived story describing a prince and a princess turned into paddles by evil magic. The problem is that if you've played Breakout, you've played this, and while such things as zombies and boss fights add a little to the gameplay value, Bad Omen runs on its novelty. Once you get past that, the experience quickly loses its lustre.

Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits review (PS2)

Reviewed on July 01, 2006

Arc: Twilight of the Spirits often feels more about toil than reward.
Psychic Detective (PlayStation)

Psychic Detective review (PSX)

Reviewed on March 11, 2006

I had this plan for a review, and it was going to be great. See, what I was going to do was write an intro on how I've played an AWESOME point 'n' click game. One so spectacular that I had to write a review on it because not sharing this masterpiece WITH THE WORLD would have made me selfish and possessive. Then I was going to work in a direct link to my Broken Sword review using my limited knowledge of HTML coding. Hohoho.
Drakengard (PlayStation 2)

Drakengard review (PS2)

Reviewed on February 27, 2006

But none of them stand a chance, and it's a given that a worse-for-wear Caim will limp into his own courtyard, blood flowing freely from his wounds and dripping onto the barren earth floor. A few more troops await their death here but once they're disposed of, you learn the full extent of their actions. In the middle of the courtyard, peppered with arrows, spears and swords, awaits an imposing sight. Before you lies a dying dragon.
Monkey Puncher (Game Boy Color)

Monkey Puncher review (GBC)

Reviewed on February 16, 2006

Choosing either of the two siblings, Kenta or Sumire, make no difference to the overall aim of the game, which is to raise and train a monkey strong enough to topple the Saru group and freeing your imprisoned family. Handily, you happen to obtain a feisty little monkey by the name of Freddy who may very well be your token to glory, vengeance and the possible triggering of Armageddon.
Chrono Cross (PlayStation)

Chrono Cross review (PSX)

I do not care for this game.
Conflict: Desert Storm (Xbox)

Conflict: Desert Storm review (XBX)

Reviewed on January 22, 2006

Looking at Conflict: Desert Storm for the first time, it is entirely forgivable to automatically label it as the poor man’s multi-platform Ghost Recon. That's certainly what I did; I just consider myself fortunate that I bypassed my preliminary misgivings long enough to actually try the game.
Alien Soldier (Genesis)

Alien Soldier review (GEN)

Reviewed on January 20, 2006

Twenty five bite-sized levels of pure mayhem, anyway. Because Alien Soldier isn't about stomping through waves of underlings and mass-produced cannon fodder; it's about going toe-to-toe with some of the sickest and most malevolent bosses imaginable.
Beyond Good & Evil (Xbox)

Beyond Good & Evil review (XBX)

Reviewed on January 01, 2006

Just who are telling the truth and who are the traitors? Jade, and ultimately, you, will have to see this through your photographic lens to believe it and expose it to Hillys before it's too late.
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 (Xbox)

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 review (XBX)

Reviewed on December 28, 2005

But you'd have to go back a long way -- all the way back to Tony Hawks Pro Skater 3. A game that might well be the best entry in the series but at the sacrifice of being the last decent title the franchise will ever see.
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (PlayStation 2)

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex review (PS2)

Reviewed on December 18, 2005

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex keeps within the pre-existing universe already set up by the anime. The distinctly futuristic Japan is your playground, and the hi-tech gadgetry contained inside your toys. In keeping this universe intact, it presents the player with a unique and fresh game that always manages to impress.
