I am no fan of shooters, even the old fashioned plane shooters, but Star Fox is the exception. I love this game, and it is in my mind one of the reasons to get a Nintendo 64. This game is extremely fun, and it is very intriguing. The battles are fun, and you will find yourself zooming through again and again.
STORY (8/10): For a plane shooter stories do play a role and this one is fairly good. You are mercenaries sent out to stop the evil plots of Andross. He has henchman and has created havoc on many planets. Your job to fight your way through to Venom, and then Andross himself.
GRAPHICS (19/20): Unlike its predessesor the graphics of this game is very smooth and nice. You can see what you are fighting through, and all the enemies are detailed. The one point is deducted for a minor slowdown when there are like a thousand enemies on the screen, but the fact is they can put that many with good control.
SOUND (9/10): Of course we all know the one point is deducted for Slippy. Sure the voice fits him, but it is fairly annoying. However Peppy, Foxes, and Falco's voices are all fit their character form perfectly. The music is also very good, and therefor little to no weakness in sound.
GAMEPLAY (33/35): The game is fun, there is no denying that. The dogfights against the StarWulf team is possibly the most fun to be had on the Nintendo 64 system. The fighting crazy-style is also in the game alot, in which you go around shooting at little ships. This is strangely fun and kinda of a addicting gameplay. There are three ruotes, all with different levels and goals to be reached. Definitely worth a playthrough.
CONTROLS (9/10): For a shooting game controls mean everything. I mean if the aim is off you could miss an easy target, or if the reactions are slow who knows how much trouble you would be in. Star Fox controls are great and affective. They will shoot what you want with little to no trouble. However the regular bullets may be a little on the out of control side, the lockons are nice and affective.
REPLAYABILITY (7/10): Ok this is the one weakness really in this game. It is fun to play through many times, and different ruotes to take, but there is only so much to do. The multiplayer adds a good deal to this game, for it is fun to go around and shoot down your friends. I just wish there was a little bit more to do.
DIFFICULTY (5/5): You control your own fate. Take the easiest ruote to Venom will only leave a little bit of challenge in the way. However the harder ruote will keep you playing for awhile. A fair and controlled difficulty.
OVERALL (90/100): It deserves every point of this ninety that it recieved. It is a fun game, and although kinda a takeoff of StarFox for the SNES it is so much better. I love this game, and although shooters are not my style. StarFox 64 definitely is!!!!!!
Rating: 9.0/10
